thanks, hks and other brand name ones are all like 500-600 shipped, thats way to much for me, i am really not looking into those.
i think they are just the same, if fitment and sound of OBX is good, for a none racing car, the few HPs you gain from name ones just doesnt make any different
not saying they are bad, if i have extra money i will definitly buy a name brand
i went to a couple of local shops, they charge around 170 for labor and piping is not stainless, i have to bring my own muffler. thats like 220, for 130-160 i can pick up a mandrel bent stainless catback, its not bad i think. i just dont know the fitment and how it hounds
Im sure you can get a decent one off C-list around that area for 200. I dont know how strict it is where you live thou. I bought a HKS Hi-power off here for 400 earlier this year. With low low miles. Just keep your eyes open.
i buy ebay ones for the piping. the only thing that sucks on the ebay ones are the mufflar. so i order them and change the mufflar to a high quality one.
How about you dont buy anything, save your money and get a repeutable brand in time, so as to save the import scene one less ricer with a egay shit sounding fart can riding around… I know you are wanting to make your car look cool, but to anyone in the import scene that has the smallest amount of aftermarket car part knowledge will point and :squint:  :bang: :gotrice:
i am not rice at all, i always try to search here, h-t , google before i post
for the catback, i dont think OBX is really bad at all.
here is my plan
i pay for that price if i dont like the sonnd i can add a better muffler, i will cut the bumper , and let the muffler out at passanger side just like dc, make a rear lip or put a 1gen integra front lip to cover up the old hole on the driverside.
honestly i think all the name catbacks are over priced, this is not like hearders or intake mani requires more design, most name ones are 3-4 pieces, that OBX is one 2 pieces, you cant say more pieces doesnt effect flow.
here at bayarea , there are tons of used parts or some guy parting his car out on CL, a person was selling a tanabe catback for 130, i didnt wanna buy , cuz the condition was not so good , still i would say that one worth 200
I just installed my OBX cat back and I am pretty darn happy with it. I have two issues with the exhaust and they are both easy to address.
At the flange near the rear “axle” the OBX chokes down from the 2.5" pipe down to OEM 1.8 or 2" pipe for the flange gasket (the gasket is not really neccessary a tthat joint). It is an easy fix to have the pipe cut out and a new one welded in.
The hanger located at the rear axle is WAY too long. This was very clear as soon as I pulled the piping out of the box. The hanger is so long that you will not be able to mount both pipes on the car as the hanger will dig into the axle back portion. 2 minutes with a dremel to cut ~1.5 inches off of the hanger fixed the issue.
Just as an FYI… spray the rubb hangers down with windex or simple green… it won’t eat the rubber, but it will make removing them MUCH MUCH easier

i ran a knockoff ebay exhaust on my 240sx looked just like the hks hi power angle out… cost me 145 shipped then we laid it next to my cousins hks hi power and the only differnce was the name stamped on it
To not include what is inside the canister or muffler… Or the quality of the metal or welds. You have alot to learn young padawan. But one day you will understand, I have faith. Just do a ton more :read:
The OBX welds look great… and believe it or not, OBX is actuallly a fairly decent brand. On my last car I bought an Apex’i N1 cat back (the real thing)… and wouldn’t you know it, but within 4 years in TEXAS (see… NO ROAD SALTS!!!) the stainless canister was completely corroded out and all of the cheap packing material had also rotted away. The difference between OBX and Apex’i is that if my OBX corrodes out, I have only lost $200 instead of $600.
The point is… the saying “You get what you pay for” is a cliche used by sales men to make you feel better about spending more on a product you cannot actually qqualify as being better. Spending more does not mean you get a better product, it just means you spent more. It is the same reason why the Hummer H2 has one of the worst initial qquality ratings… people spend tons on it and so they expect Mercedes like quality of assembly, but in reality, the truck is still just POS that rolled off the GM assembly line.
And that is ignorance on the buyers part, which is why I said he needs to do more :read:. It is no different then people thinking they are hot shit for driving a lexus, infinity, or acura, when they are in all reality just a honda, nissian, and toyota with a different badge and $15k mark up over what it would cost in japan for the same model. American ignorance. I run a RS*r cat back and in 2 years time have had zero problems and sounds exactly how it did when I first installed.
Take for instance the ss autochrome turbo kits that were on ebay for like $600-700. Manifolds were cracking apart at the welds and their turbo’s were shredding and the buyers were all coming online wanting to know why their $700 turbo kit made it only 2 months. At the same time a turbo kit like that is marketed to nothing more than someone that really just wants to fit in with the cool crowd, cant wait for the better stuff, and is ignorant in what they are buying. Hell I could buy one right now and park mad hard at the local hangout spot and make the blow off valve go whoooshs for my friends and say, “yo I just beat that civic si,” but I am waiting a couple more years till I can afford to build the motor and get the full race kit and say to my friends, “yo I just walked a new zo6”… and have that kit last me more then a few months.
If the cheap stuff was just as good as the more higher end stuff, why would teams not use it and save the money for traveling to farther races, more wind tunnel time, more tunning time, more renting out tracks for private praticing time, or to just plain save some money???
Maybe why I get irritated with stuff like this is the fact these are the people with their obnoxious exhausts or cars that bounces down the HWY that contribute along with the street racers to giving us a bad name with the older generation and cops. That and the fact, ruin it for the ones that actually care about their care enough and are willing to wait and save for a companies part that no longer exists because some company figured they want a peice of the pie and decide to start knocking off desings for cheaper prices. I mean in todays day and age it is about playing off peoples ignorance and the all mighty dollar, so in all reality I give companies that do that stuff 2 thumbs up for a good “business” idea which I am sure has lined their pockets quite nicely, but at the same time 2 thumbs down for destroying a scene that the only involvement they have is profiting of the ignorance of kids that are new to it.
i think obx, megan racing are not bad brand, but like i said in the first place different cars servece different purposes, i dont race , i just corner lil hard, so just like dfwblackls siad, i think top line and obx its the same thing to most people, cuz they performce the same , they last the same, you cant tell who is better, if you put everything together( money, lasting, hp gain) do you really thing you spend 400 more to get like 3 4peak hp wosrt? i am not a pro, but i think in a real racing world 3 -4 hp cant make a person win or lose. although, the teams will do anything to win, so they just put the top line produsts on their carz, another thing that you said about ebay turbo kit, you cant compare ebay no brand products to obx or megan, there are just totally different.
like i said iin the second place, what you said was all true, there s always a reason that name brands cost more, the design the metal,
but from looking in the pic of obx , i dont see its worst than hks or skunk2.
for the ebay no brand catbacks or other stuff , when you look at them , you can def tell its crap, the metal they use, how they photoshop the pics and stuff
