anyone without ps

I want to remove my power steering and a/c stuff. I’ve heard the rack can lock up because there is no more fluid has anyone had this problem and what all should i remove?

there is a teg tips on removing your PS belt…not sure how to completely remove everything else…good luck man. later.

I have no PS belt. i have heard that you can use some Civic Steering Rack that is manual and swap it out I am thinking about doing it but i dont know enuf info

Yeah, I just removed the ps belt but it sounds like you want to remove the entire pump and everything. I’ve heard other guys talk about this and you might want to try searching for it. But, what I remember is that they left a little bit of fluid in the reservoir to keep it lubed up. It’d be best to double check that though.

Talk to amerikan he has the pump and some other stuff removed

I actually just bought a '90 civic hatch (I think all 88-91 civic work) manual steering rack. I lined the two racks (90- 93 Teg and 90 Civic) side by side and it looks like it is going to go in with no problem.

I would think that the Civic gears would have a shorter turning radius so it would be easier than removed p/s belt but not as easy as power steering

Uh oh… is it bad to have no fluid in the power steering reservoir?

i remember reading SCC that in their project SI they wanted to swap in the steering rack from an integra but they couldnt because how it was positioned. i dont know if its the same as in the 88-91 hb and our tegs. but thought id share the info.

and on the PS i removed the pump and most of the lines i could reach. theres still some at the firewall i couldnt reach but ill get to those wen i learn how to take out my motor.

If you have no fluid in the reservoir and still have the belt on, then yes, it is bad.

SWM ISO B20: If you are in good condition with low milage then you could be the one for me. Must enjoy spirited scenic drives and showing off in front of crowds. Please reply to my email addy as my engine bay is waiting for you.

Search doesn’t work that well, I answered this for someone and I can’t find it.

I removed mine by plugging the 14mm whole (formerly pump return) and pulled out the resvoir and connected the cooler return line to the resevoir return line.

MrFrost, doesnt it take a 1.00 metric thread to plug those holes. Those threads are hard to find. I believe Earl’s fittings have the right plugs.

I have no idea, I grabbed the finnest threaded 14mm bolt I could find at Lowe’s and stuck it in there. I’m not sure if its fine enough but it didn’t feel like I was stripping it as I put it in.

Since you guys are talking about it, i took off the p/s motor, cut all the lines(there was only three lines if im correct) and put some power stering fluid in the lines that were cut, pluged them up, now i’m always going to check to see if the fluid is low, my question is ,do i need to worry about the steering locking up?

I was hoping someone would get a kick out of that:p

since your talking about changing out the racks…i’m not sure but would the crx steering rack work…i thought a lot of the crx parts fit on the teg and vice versa

One of the hardest things to find for our cars is a bolt/plug that will fit into the PS rack. Honda, intelligently, used a very fine thread bolt(1.0) pitch, which is virtually unseen any where else. I would almost recommend cutting the stock bolts off of the lines and filling the holes with Sodder. Not something for a rookie, but simple enough. If your removing the hard lines use a ‘line wrench’. It looks like a box-end with a slit cut in the middle. And yes, keep a little fluid in the rack.

I have a question, will there be overflow problems if you just take the belt off? I thought that the only time fluid issues were involved was when you tried to take out the pump.

Ok, i took off my power steering belt. If i take off the p/s pulley etc, which hoses do i have to plug up? If there’s not a enough p/s fluid (even though there’s no p/s) your steering wheel can lock up?:whoa:

what is it like when trying to park? break into a sweat?
