automatic to manual swap (auto - 5spd conversion writeup)

How can i claim ignorance during inspection lol?

hehe. i mean, is it even illegal? changing the motor from a different car/year is one thing, but you’re changing the transmission from the same car/motor. doesn’t affect smog. well maybe the egr… otherwise, it looks stock and they may not even notice. try calling em and ask. couldnt hurt. i bet they would be just as confused and say “i guess it doesn’t really matter”.

Thats almost exactly what happened. I am in the garage right now doing the swap.

ok someone here help me please.

i did the auto to manual swap. runs good and strong, i put in a new b18b engine while i was at it but retained all my obd0 parts to the new motor (intake manifold, tb, alt, sensors… etc)

well the integra had alot more damn vacumm lines than any civic i ever owned so i labeled em all and stuck em back where they came from. and blocked off the ones that werent being used anymore.

im still running my auto ecu, i tried to use a PM6 Ecu i had laying around and it wont let it rev over 3 grand, so i went back to my auto PR-4.

MY PROBLEM:

When i start the car the idle runs low and dies, sometimes it will idle at like 200rpm and sound like SHIT while its running.

If i hold the gas and hold it over 1k for about 10 seconds it goes to a normal idle after the check engine light comes on and yadda yadda

im getting a map sensor error code. and the trans error yadda yadda.

my question is there something i forgot to do? was i supposed to block off the EGR ? was i supposed to pull out that big map box that only autos have. if i get a PR-4 will i still get the rev limit of 3k like the pm6 ?

its getting annoying holding the idle sounding like a damn race car while it sputters. i mean it runs perfect after the check engine and ish comes on.

can somone take a picture of their conversion vacumm diagram or help me out plz. id like to actually be able to use my autostart

THANKS!

Auto PR4 runs the MT setup like shit. I had to do it while diagnosing a problem after the swap.

Sorry, I read this whole thread, and many other sources, but is there a list of the COMPLETE wiring that needs to be done? There are random pics and bits and pieces discpritpions in this thread, but nothing comprehensive. Thanks.

It was comprehensive for me and others to figure it out. You must have a HELM manual before starting this swap. I can’t tell you enough how valuable those troubleshooting and wiring diagrams are.

I have a Helms. I’m just trying to figure out all the wiring, and I have come up with only 5 things…I thought it was a lot more…
Park
Reverse Light
Shift Lock
Cruise
Key Interlock
That all?

just remembered in the twilight hours while missing my teg:

TIP - DON’T FORCE MOUNTS INTO POSITION: for me, the tranny mount not only was offset vertically, but a little bit horizontally. i had to do some grinding and forced the motor toward it to bolt up. i would advise NOT to force the motor or mounts to make it fit. i realized the undue force ended up bending my front mount, which caused the motor to sit at an odd angle, thus snapping the driver side axle when i would make a u turn. it took 3 axles before noticing the bent front mount.

fyi i have the es motor mount inserts and both sides are filled with urethane, so my setup was already a bit stiff. oh and a stage 5 clutchmasters setup. oh and 450/550lb springs and azenis, so ya, a little stiff. an adapter plate or hasport mount like the others probably would have been better.

Mine was off by a tad more than an inch vertically, perfect fit horizontally.

hm i’m the only one so far then. 90-91 or 92-93 chassis? 90-91 or 92-93 mount? both of mine were from 90-91. well if anything it’s a “just in case”.

I used the 91 Mount on a 92 Chassis.

motor mount - to make it easier to bolt in, i left all mounts loose, keep the bolts holding the tranny mount, to the plate loose aswell… then it’ll be quite easier to boltin.

im going to be doing this swap hopefully pretty soon. my new “rebuilt” auto tranny is slipping really bad and had to push it a few times before. this happened w/ my old one too but thats a different story. anyways… im going to be puttin a 92 ys1 into my 90 ls. am i still going to be able to do the shimming thing where i put one nut between the mount and the plate and one nut on top of the plate to make this tranny fit? im hoping to get this done in one day. also… has anyone done this swap without an engine hoist? cuz i dont have one and not sure where to get one cheap. thanks.

I did the swap alone with two jacks and a floor jack. You can do it, just make sure you know EVERY step and prepare well.

yea i heard about your probems  so i plan on being very well prepared. anything on the 92 ys1 in my 90 ls as far as the same kind of shimming used?

Should be off by 1 inch or so vertically either way, the motor/tranny mounts all work the smae way I believe.

ok in the process of putting everything in the exterior back together… but the rollers do not fit in the MT halfshaft… maybe i missed it somewhere in the writeup or in posts but now im stuck until i can get these rollers. i wanna get this job done with!!!

rollers?

yea those things that go into the halfshaft. usually round or rectangular. 3 of them… slide onto the spider…i have big square ones that fit in the auto halfshaft but i need the smaller round ones to go into the manual halfshaft
