ok i am converting my auto into 5spd. the rollers on my drivers side axle go into my auto halfshaft fine due to the fact that the spots for the rollers are bigger. i have to use a manual halfshaft because the manual one is the only one that will bolt up fine and line up good. the auto halfshaft dont line up the same way because there is something in the way and it dont have the curve. so i either need to put new rollers on my axle end that will fit into the manual halfshaft ( smaller round rollers ) or i need to customize my auto one to try to make it line up. tried to customize already and didn’t work out like i wanted it to. so im off to the junkyard tomorrow and will finish the swap in a few days. been takin my time on it.
does the 5-speed gauge cluster go straight into a auto car
without any issues?
the reason i am asking is b/c we just did a auto to 5-speed swap
and the car is acting really weird, like when the lights are turned on the car dies, they battery is only pulling 10volts, but if we remove the battery cables the car still runs with the lights off, but the car dies when you turn the lights on, and when they come on they are very very dim
what could be causing this issue?

the cluster will be a simple plug-n-play , but you will have a extra harness that would normally go in where the center is to show the shifter position. it’s fine to leave that alone…
yes - using a manual halfshaft is the best way to go upon that…
the headlight question, im not an expert, you can post that up in electrical help…
went to the junkyard and got a bunch of round rollers thinkin they were smaller but these were about the same size. now im not sure what im going to do… gonna try and customize the auto halfshaft more so that it bolts up fine. dont know where else i could get the smaller rollers that will fit in my MT halfshaft. they had to make different sized rollers didn’t they… any ideas before i ruin something??? lol
i would say go to a parts dismatler, salvaged yard… where they get the part for you…
you tell them what you want, and they get it for you. it’ll prolly cost more, but you’ll get the rigth part…
wow i feel dumb :bang: … figured out my problem… with every single halfshaft i’ve seen there was always a piece of the axle on it. so i thought that that is how they came. didn’t know that was a piece of the axle on the halfshaft until tonight when someone showed me how to take it off. so i dont need new rollers or anything. teggy will be back on the ground tomorrow now and i just gotta do the pedals and linkage

i thought u were talking about the splines on the halfshaft that go into the tranny…
been doin this swap slowly but im close to done. putting the 5 spd pedals in… theres a gold box down right near the auto pedal assembly and its in the way. is it needed for my 5 spd? because there really isn’t much room down there for it for me to move it for the 5spd pedals. thanks

i wanted to let you know that your post on the 5 speed helped me out seeing that i did it about 3 years ago but when we wernt geting the motor in right and the tranny cause of the shim thing with the mouts i just stoped and bought a car with the 5 speed allready in it. but ive total that one out and now back to this one again and your post has helped me out the rest of the way

me again. ok so its finally driveable
a few things though. last year i had a starting problem and did everything i could think of to get it fixed. the best i got was that it only didn’t start on me like once a week or so. right now… i can’t get it to start at all from the ignition. have to start it from the starter everytime. i thought i did all the wiring correctly but maybe i didn’t :hmm:
another thing is what did you guys use to block off the extra vacuum inlet things on manifold?
and last thing… i can’t get the freakin speedo cable to go in. wont clip in like i guess its sposed to. doesn’t look like there is enough room in the hole for the clip to go far enough in to be big enough to hold the speedo clip. anyways im off to clean up the interior a bit. thanks for any and all help… again
