you mean the intermediate shaft? i believe my 90 auto and the 90 manual were the same length. i did notice that the passenger side axle didnt come out as much, meaning the manual tranny is a bit smaller than the auto. merging thread with manual swap thread.
Glad I found this site
So, after a year of rebuilding a 91 GS, I finally come across this thread. Part of my rebuild was replacing the automatic with a manual transmission, and I would have LOVED to have the knowledge that XDEep and Shenrie have provided here.
I will try and touch on parts of this thread that went unnoticed:
You cannot (for sake of sanity) create a manual to auto swap, too many wires, too many factory splices in the wiring harness, and too few factory bolt holes for auto stuff in a manual chassis. Besides, why would you want to?
What they mean by year specific ECU’s is get the same year as your transmission, NOT your chassis.
If you can get the transmission bracket, and mount, for the manual you will not have to shim anything. The clearance issues will not become a problem.
If you feel passionate about your car enough to try this conversion, and by passionate I mean slightly insane, please make sure that you have all the necessary tools to complete this job. I don’t necessarily mean wrenches and things like that, but if your greatest tuning achievement has been Indiglo gauges, please don’t try this yourself.
Thanks to XDEep for helping me with that tricky reverse light problem.
Now if I could ask for more help. I have been looking frantically to find a vaccum hose path diagram similar to a wiring diagram. I don’t suppose anyone has that information?

well i know the manual tranny is a little smaller. so do i need all new axles? the half-shaft i bought came out of a 92 rs is that why it doesn’t fit my 90 ls? it’s the same exact engine code and everything so im confused
im using the brackets and mount from a 90 and i had to shim it. did you use one from a 92-93?

i used my auto axles for my 90 chassis/tranny. did you pull it directly off the motor? perhaps you got one off a DC or something…
i dropped my tranny with the motor still bolted up. if that’s what u mean. and i know it came off a 92 gs (DA) cuz i saw the car it got pulled off of. it’s my friends teg he was parting out that he came out of which is a 92 gs. so what axles do i need to buy? I need both driver and passenger! and another problem! my car won’t start! no one told me about some safety switch to start the damn car that was hooked up to the auto shifter! does ne one have a diagram of this part cuz i have no idea. im just going by what i was told by the shop. and with out it, my car will not start!
dunno about your axle problem but i made a post here about the wires you need to splice in order to start and use your reverse light.
well i found out why the axle doesn’t work! the axles are different in ABS cars than in non ABS cars so im buying new ones from schucks with a lifetime waranty all greased and ready to go in stock! as for the starting/reverse problem i’ll read through these pages later and find it. thanks
really? im using ABS axles… i thought the only difference were the splines on the end. you might want to check out www.raxles.com
they use all new parts instead of remanufactured and i believe are about the same price.
well the axles are in, i wish i knew that raxles site b4 i bought the reman. ones but oh well. but my car is idling at 5K RPMS! WTF?! my friend and i are going to check vaccum lines or whatever else we can do tomorrow but if we can figure it out i might have my teggy back tomorrow and running but does ne one know what exactly might cause this? i highly doubt the idling screw got that messed up from sittin for almost 6 months but who knows.
GRRRRR we checked all vaccum lines and everything is where it needs to be nothing is disconected that has to do with idling. we are going to try 2 more things tomorrow, if we still can’t fix it i have no clue what’s wrong. im going to check for an air leak around the intake manifold, i have no idea how one would get there randomly but i dunno. my swap is completely done just it idles at 5K RPMS and it’s starting to make me really mad cuz my car has been down since december first of 03!!! almost 6 months ago! has ne one else had this idling problem when they finished the swap!? please help a fellow g2ic member out!
anyone?
they cleaned my air control valve and the idle went down but now my tach is bouncy. im gonna dig up the post about that on here. i hope it’s still around. so ya i got my teggy back today and it’s up and running after almost 6 months of sitting took a while for parts and what not.
Iac
Check your idle air control counts and see if it might be your IAC. I had a problem with that for a while, checked my MAP sensor and that was alright. The vaccum line material actually makes a difference, so if your using other than OEM lines, that could be the problem. My guess, it would be the IAC (located on the back of your intake manifold, the cylinder looking thing) Make sure that your minimum air settings are correct by making sure that no one has changed the TB screw.
do you have a pic? i’ll look tomorrow after school but a pic might help me a little. the thing is getting really annoying and too many damn idiots think im revvin on them so they rev back!
okay haven’t fixed the idle yet but im trying to fix my radio and the guy at good guys said the only thing he can think of is the harness isn’t plugged in at the other end? is that hard to get to or am i gonna have to rip out my hole dash board to get to it? really pisses me off that i payed 700 bucks for this swap to be finished and im having to fix little shit when i got it back.
harness is just behind the stereo so you just need to take out the center console.
i know that harness, that’s all connected but where does the other end of that harness connect to? it just disapears up into my dash some where and i can’t figure it out and i really don’t wanna pull my whole dash cuz that takes a long time for me
you dont want to know :uhoh:
i found out where the other end of that wire goes. it splits off into 2 and they both connect into the fuse box on the side by the pedals. and they are both plugged in!!! ahhhhhhhhhh what else could it be? the fuses are fine too. it just comes on and then comes off oh and now my cd won’t come out and when i hit source to switch it to cd nothing happens :gunleft:
oh ya, another thing. what did u guys that have done this swap do with the hoses and plugs that plugged into the automatic tranny that the 5 speed doesn’t have? mine are just hanging and my friend told me to plug them by putting a screw or something in em :dunno: he said that might be a cause of my idling problem but i think it might have something to do with im still using the automatic ECU
