b16 1/4 mile times

I’m trying to figure out what is wrong with my teggy. Is it me or the car. (I’m partially going with me) My best is in the low 16’s. No internal work done just i/h/e. What have others been running with their NA B16?

thats about right. dont feel bad its only a b16.

a b16 is not a drag racing motor, it is best suited for the circuit, why do you think vtec starts at around 4400-5300rpm because on the circuit you’re never under those rpms, and trying to race people from a stop with no bottom end torque is slow. If you’re trying to drag race you got the wrong motor

yeah, that seems about right. the B18A that comes in our cars runs better than B16 swapped tegs. B16’s REALLY REALLY lack in the bottom end. the transmission gearing helps a little bit, but only a little bit.

my advice, take the b16 out of your car, take the LS block, put some higher compression pistons in it. and do an overall “refreshening” of the block. then put the b16 head on that block. use the b16 transmission. RACE. i guarantee that you’ll see improvements of AT LEAST half a second. you should run in the range of 15 seconds flat with a basic LS/VTEC setup (assuming you are using the B16 tranny) b16 trannys are killers in first gear when used on a stout motor. a basic LS/VTEC setup with a B16 trans is a nice start when it comes to building an entry level race car. good for drag racing and ‘real’ racing (road courses and auto-x)

16’s is really bad. You should be in the low 15’s w/ your bolt ons.

Nothing’s wrong with having a B16.
It’s almost the same as having a g2 GS-R motor, and they run in the high 15’s stock.

GS-R 160 Hp 117 Tq
Older JDM B16a 160 Hp 111 Tq

The tranny gearing ratio is slightly differ in 2 gears, but probaly not enough to make a huge difference.

If I were you, I’d go over the entire engine, and tune up or change whatever I could, then go out for more practice.

I was told I have the gsr tranny. I just made a post trying to figure out for sure which tranny I have. I’m at work right now so I can’t go out and get the code but doesn’t the color of the tag show what type of tranny it is?

If you have a GS-R trans, it should say YS1 on the barcode somewhere.
Although 92-93 LS’s also say YS1.

So if you happen to have the long geared YS1, that may be your problem to your slow 1/4 times.

So what should I do? How much is that gonna run me?

I’m wondering why you say the b16’s don’t ‘run’ better. I have easily beaten LS guys and even GSR g3 tegs. Maybe it’s my headwork. :stuck_out_tongue: i do agree that they are better for circuit.

I’m thinking your time is a bit off, what is your 60’ time? My head has had work to it, but at a test n tune it ran 14.7

hmm…i think is u man, cuz i run low 16’s in w my b18 , all it has is intake, full exhaust…thats about it

Last friday I was leaving the local track and went to shift into reverse and it wouldn’t go. So took it to Honda monday and they said it’s either bent or busted up inside the tranny so new tranny on its way. The LS wasn’t working out well anyway. So we are getting b16a out of a SIRII.

Isn’t an SIRII trans a hydro? Are you gonna be getting a conversion kit for it?

Hopefully it’ll help your times out.

tranny

gotta be the tranny, there’s no way he’s running those times with that tranny.

We made sure he ordered a cable tranny. I’m probably mistaken on the SiRII then.

i took mine to the track last summer, completely stock just rsr exhuast, sri, and hi flo cat. I ran i think 3 or four times i started at a 15.9 and got it down to a 15.5. My times kept getting faster so i might be able to run a lower time but yeah thats where i was at

I ran 16.4 with my b16 w/ intake and exhaust with shitty 2.5 60 ft. and 2800 race weight, definatly need to work on that 60 ft.

2800lbs? jesus christ how does that happen? lol

me 230lbs, 3/4 tank

i ran mid 14s when i had my b16. skunk stage 2 cams, dc sports 4-1 header and light porting on the intake. 2630lbs with me in it. 160whp 111wtq. just turbo the damn thing. b16s with R cams loves nitrous also. low 13’s high 12s all day with a 75 shot.

want to go faster? lose some weight. gas doesnt weight that much. have some 150lb guy drive your car and see the difference. i ran a 15.2 on my stock gsr i weigh 140
