who’s running it? what numbers have you put down? what mods/setup?
i’ve read in HCI or something about them conducting a test of turbo/blower/supercharger on a completely stock b16a.
they did not however specify if it was a jdm first gen, second gen, or usdm version. but they did however say that the stock torque numbers were 116ft lbs.
they ran a turbo kit on it, and boosted 10psi w/ hondata s200 w/boost and got 260hp (the did not specify to the wheels or crank) but in the text, they said they had a junker b16a in a del sol to conduct testing. so im guessing to the wheels.
im going to install the turbo kit back onto my car w/ the new b16a motor in it now, but i just wanted to know what people’s experiences are with it.
it will be a stock jdm first gen b16a w/ a custom turbo kit. T3 from a ford thunderbird, 2" charge piping, and a 2.5" downpipe to a full 2.25" exhaust. running a 7:1 FMU, or i can hopefully get some turboedit tuning or so done.
im getting a pw0 either this sunday or monday. mugen chipped. then i’ll see how the motor runs like that, after… im planning on going with turboedit. but ben, i read up a little bit when i had time on your BRE, but i didnt understand if you had the program to tune it, or if you had a bin to burn… wsup with it?
i was more asking for people who hae had the setup and what they think about it also…
I have ran a b16a turbo in teh teg. t3/t4e 57trim .63 hotside. got full boost by 5k and it was fun untill I streched the reused(3times) stock honda headbolts. I estimate it at 250-265whp @ 11psi.
basically same tubo as mine, I know the person I bought the turbo off of, made 280whp@10psi on a 9:1 gsr w/b16a head, thats why I esitmated 250whp. It was much faster than the 187whp@7psi LS crx I just put together.
so if 11psi on a stock b16 with an estimated 250whp on reused headbolts for 3 times, was it safe besides the fact of the headbolts? were there any other problems that you had?
my motor from what i know is still a virgin and has never been opened up… im planning to run maybe 8 now because of the higher compression…
what are/were you guys running as fuel management at the time you had the turbo in?
the only problem was the headbolts/headgasket, when the engine was first installed I was running a small fan and overheated a bit. this might have been the problem with the headgasket or the headbolts streched. the b16 shortblock was sold to finish my sleeved LS shortblock. the b16a is now running in a friends EG hatch(soon to be boosted)
Once you have wideband and look at your programs. It’s pretty easy to tune even if you’re a beginner. the datalogging helps tho. I’ll make a few runs then sit down and take a look at waht I got and slowly start fixing thigns from there on.
