B17A1 Build plans: help (thoughts, opinions) needed

Pics of the complete header? Sorry if they were posted already, I didn’t check.

What? You saw the Toda logo, what more do you want!? Lol. I’ll get some pictures of it later.

It looks like this except it is the color of lightly rusted stainless steel instead of polished stainless steel, it has repair welds in a couple joints by Dave at SMSP and is missing all of the springs at the “slip joints” which aren’t actually slip joints but just bands of metal welded onto the actual pipe.

Nice… I can dig it.

Ceramic coating would be cool, depending on the color. Black or the standard grey would be nice.

I wonder if I can get them to mix up that light grey with the red to get a nice pink. That would go pretty well with the teal.

:squint:

Updates? Decisions made? Tis the season to get builds put together and enjoy them!!

I bought a horse last fall so I’ve been a little lax on the car since I’ve been working on getting good manners put on her. Not really much further on the car work, but I have made up my mind about some stuff and have a plan put together.

I’ve decided that all of the “performance shop” people I’ve talked to are idiots. The guy from King never did call me back with that estimate.

I bought a used B17A1 and YS1 transmission from one of the red GS-Rs that bit the dust this winter in WI. My plan is to clean it up, put a new water pump and timing belt on that and plunk it into the car.

My stock engine will get the OEM Honda part upgrades we’ve talked about with some mild portwork from Portflow. I’m going to just get the machine work on the bottom end done locally and assemble the entire thing myself. Somehow having a spare B17A1 already in the car makes that way less scary. I’ll be buying pistons soon since genuine oversized JDM ones seem to be drying up, but except for that I’m going to hold off on the rebuild until I have the space to rebuild it at my place.

I’ve been trying hard to limit myself to the car budget that I set before starting the project (although I’ve failed miserably) and frankly at this point I’d rather have it in stock running condition with a nice suspension than 30 more hp and stock suspension, know what I mean?

Because of how much I have the car torn down, this will also be a smart way to go so I can iron out any electrical issues I might have from removing the ABS and can take some time putting together a good engine management system instead of having to debug all of those things at once.

One silly thing I did pick up recently that I haven’t mentioned is a set of 15" Mugen CF-48s. I couldn’t pass them up for the price. A little earlier than really appropriate for the car and not exactly a “performance” rim, but I think they’ll look nice. (they are white with no covers)

Nice come up! I dig those wheels. Not track wheels but good show or cruising wheels. Although after getting my new brake pads just thinking about cleaning white CF-48’s is making me sick…
