i am running a b20z in my teg right now im wanting to run some boost should i just do it to my b20 or buy a b18a/b cheap and do a turbo or would my b20 be fine. iv heard many different things about boost on b20 i just want the truth!
all i know is what ive heard and that is that b20 s are terrible for boostin on
there are limits to everything.
the one thing that the LS will offer over the CRV is that when you do push it past the threshold you’ll most likely fuck up only 1 of the 4.
The b20 motors have a nasty habbit of cracking every cylinder at once.
LS should be a huge contender since they are cheaper to find.
Makes me sort of wonder if a stock LS will hold up better than a stock B16a motor at the same boost level. I would think that the LS would hold up better, but there are some people out there that think otherwise. This is actually a good thread. I say this because people are still learning new shit about honda engines and how they hold up to boost. So it really doesn’t matter how many times this stuff has been covered, because there is always new theories and results popping up based on this discussion.
b20 are good for about 7-8psi daily driven, but high rev on a b20 is no good because there is no top end there already and the cams aren’t mean to rev that high. personally ran a b20-vtec @ 9psi daily driven never had a problem in the 8 months i used the motor, pulled the turbo… it did lose compression in all the cylinders though. but it still pulled like no tommorow even all motor.
the reason b20’s are weak is because the sleeves are thinner than other motors, they are prone to crack; even with the use of a blockgaurd or jacket filler, block posting… yadda yadda…
ls’s are good to boost at the same time, the walls are not as prone, they have more thickness and fullness to the sleeves… but who can argue about the low end torque of a b20b/z…
i would honestly drop a vtec head on your b20, and boost it 7psi… you will be very impressed…
Yes all that about b20s are true but the b20z is a better engine then the
b20b.It is a lot stronger. And ya they have a lot of low end torgue, and i hear not so much top end but i have also heard that if you take the cams out of a b18b it makes it more aggressive. It was either just swaping cams or doing a full head swap. I cant remeber but its something to look end to. But no matter what you do i would post your block. Dont run block guards.
Turbo B20/vtec
I’m running a Turbo B20/Vtec. I haven’t had any trouble. I’m more towards reliability then power. I’m running 10psi of boost. she is well maintained and driven all the time. I’ve heard the samethings about the B20’s not being reliable but you figure that if you build the bottom end enough to be bullet-proof you shouldn’t have any problems. ofcourse you have chances of over boosting but thats why you do regular maintenance. keep in mind once you modify something above spec you always have a chance of something going wrong.
