b18c gsr swap

please, what modifications does it takes to get a complete jdm “b18c gsr”(94-01) into a '91 integra with stock “b18a”?. “b18c” comes with ecu, wire harnes and hydro.trans. any help?

think teg tips engine swap guide

The swap is quite simple, as long as you have all of the wiring figured out, basically just drop the motor in and then its plug and play from there. I did this swap and it dropped in quite nicely.

change the dist. plug
reuse your stock injectors
what about alternator?
do all of the other sensors just plug right up?

thanks guys, the mechanical part of the swap in not the problem, I’ve read the swap guide but what I don’t get is why it is not possible to use the ecu that comes with the jdm engine since it comes with the wire harness too?

It is possible to use the JDM ECU. check out www.rywire.com you can send them your harness and the engine harness from the new motor and they can change out the necessary items.

hey thanks, I’ll check this out.

hey, I think this will solve my problem, thanks again.

anytime

Anyone else going to mention anything about the hydro-cable tranny mismatch and what needs to be done about it?

You need to buy a conversion kit.
Hasport and Innovative both make one.

Anyone got anymore imput on the wiring aspect of this swap?

negative. Thats not the only way around the hydro issue. You could buy a conversion kit like you said , put the hydro gears in a 92-93 cable case , find a vtec cable transmission from either a 92-93 gs-r or xsi equvilent , or custom make a hydro set up using 94+ pedals / oem or other correct after market tubing/ salve cylinder. Each has pros and cons.

Well i was under the impression that he wanted to use the hydro tranny so thats why i didnt suggest going with a cable tranny.

the guys at http://www.jdmsource.ca/v2/default.asp told me that they can convert hydro to cable before shippin’ the engine+transmission.

I would suggest using a cable tranny, and i think ive heard that if you use your ls tranny case and swap in the gsr gears that it is a better set up? I still have an ls tranny on my b18c motor so it is quick, but the gears are a little too long i think. Thats just my opinion though. To each his own.

ur B18A tranny bolted up the the GSR motor would work fine, ya, a tad long but good on highway drivin, great too if u wanna go turbo later on. just make sure to get a lightweight flywheel (very worth it) and a stronger clutch (nothing too crazy)

Advising people to bolt up an LS tranny to an NA VTEC engine is why the internet should never be trusted for technical advice.

why do you say that?
It WILL bolt up and it WILL work.
Whether or not it is the optimal tranny for that motor is another question.

bump for more wiring info.

Ding ding ding…

Just because it will physically work doesn’t mean you should advise people to do it.

:bang: The internet.

word.

I would never run a vtec motor with a LS tranny unless i absolutely HAD to. (no other car/tranny/etc.)
Hell im about to do a tranny swap on my LS and im going with the b16 tranny.
Might get one of those OBX LSDs everyone keeps talkin about.
