Ok, my brother handled it for me. He said he talked to a ref. The ref told him a b20 was legal, because there was a usdm car with that engine, the cr-v. He swapped it n smogged it. The tech did not check the engine code n smogged it as a stock engine. so no bar.

Take your car to state ref and see if youāll pass there.
Showing pictures of your swap means nothing. We arenāt questioning whether or not you have the swap. Weāve seen many of them on here. What matters to everyone is seeing a BAR label indicating the swap was approved and deemed legal in the car.

Like I said I should have checked my paperwork b4 I said anything. What exactly is so special about this engine anyways. My brother saved money getting it rather than the stock 1.8L. The only thing I noticed is it has lower compression to boost it.

this thread is at least 7 years old. Obviously many laws have changed since then and b20 are considered a legal swap
Looks like something has changed. Refs have some level of discretion as well so one off cases are common and just because one ref says itās OK (or not OK) doesnāt mean your local ref will feel the same way. Always confirm with your local ref beforehand.
That BAR sticker is really interesting. I havenāt read the swap laws in a decade+ but back then it was pretty specific that the engine had to be same year or newer than the car and that the engine must retain all of itās original emissions equipment. Which is not what weāre seeing here with them recognizing that the engine is a b20 but the emissions equipment is from the original engine not the new engine. By the old laws Iām familiar with that was a big no-no. Rationally this makes sense though, thatās the best way to easily swap a b20 and make it basically the same as your original engine. That would be quite amazing if the laws have actually been changed to include some logic and common sense!
