bad idea or not

Put a b20b in a g2 then slap on a vortech supercharger like one of the other members has done except using the b20b for the powerplant…? any suggestions?

Ditch the supercharger, but only if you want to make real power.

You can if you like, turbo is more practical for power, but hey it would be interesting to see you put a b20 with a super in the car in the first place :). I’d like to see it so I say go for it, though I think it’s a bad idea.

Why is it that you guys dont like the idea of a supercharger much?

i personally like turbos more because they are more effecient, and the possabilitys are endless.
you bolt on a supercarger and there is only so much you can do.

Here are some more good resources from Hondata that might help you assess b20 options. These two links are not direct comparisons of SC vs. Turbo but definately show the capabilities of both on a B20 block. The supercharger option reffered to here is not a standard Vortech kit for a specific car, You would have to contact Vortech and talk to someone who can tell you if it is available. The last link is a NA 2.0L Bseries engine that puts out almost as much power as my SC B17Vortech currently does. I personally believe fuel tuning and a new pully would get me in the 330+ HP range.

What exactly do you mean by endless? How is a supercharger more limited than a turbo? Wouldnt there be more cons and cost to install, run, and maintain a turbo versus a supercharger? Sorry, Im not trying to start an argument or anything, I just would like to learn more cause Ive been looking into someday installing a Procharger supercharger system into my car and would like to learn more about my options.

There’s a lot of good supercharger vs. Turbo information in previous posts. I already posted my supercharger propaganda for the month (I limit my soapbox time).

You’ll need to do your own research to form a valueable opinion and you’ll need to have FI installed to have a opinion thats valueable to other people

Some of the recent posts will give you a start. In regards to the procharger, I have heard one dissapointing result (waiting for more reports) on clubsi’s website.

The only realistic options for supercharger on a gen2 are the Vortech (SI and GSR kits) and the Procharger (no ones done it yet on a g2). Both these superchargers are centrifugal (like turbos), so keep that in mind when researching. Jackson Racing is a roots and has very different characterstics.

what i mean by endless…
once you get the supercharger there is not a lot more you can do to it. you can change the pullies and get some more boost out of it, but thats about it.

turbo, you can always go bigger…to a certen extent, and you can run as much boost as you are able to handle.

when i compare these this i am not talking about all superchargers…like top fuel dragsters and such…but the ones that are commenly used by us honda guys.

This should answers pretty much all of the questions that you have, if not more. I can’t remember if this was before I read about turbos or after, but oh well; here it is anyway. Enjoy:
