BASIC Question about turbo setups

I’ve searched a lot to try to find this simple answer. but all i find is that i know a lot less then i thought. i come up with all different things i’ve never heard of and get lost in all of it. what im wondering is, if i buy a Rev Hard Turbo kit, is it possible to change out the manifold to a Full Race Manifold or better? if it is, do i need to get a “conversion plate?” whats the story with it?

you can do that but you’ll end up spending more money… why not just save up a few extra bucks and get the full race kit… its a bit more expencive, yes, but you get a lot better parts(not saying the rev hard kit is bad, cuz its not)
If you bought the rev hard kit and switch manifolds, you’ll have to modify the down pipe, probably change wastegates, and modify intercooler piping…
Also. What is this “conversion plate”?

i was thinking that there was a conversion plate that went between the turbo and the manifold. so why would that much stuff have to be changed?

probably wont work.

rev hards are cast and a really compact. If it is an entire kit, then it will have a downpipe needed.

Conversion plates are usually for t3 manifolds converting to say a 14b turbo, 2 different flanges. i dont think u will be using something requiring that.

judging by the fact that u want a kit, then u wont want the DP to get custom fabb’d to the new Full race manifold.

My advice is that u buy the parts separate, go to a welder, get ur IC piping and DP tig welded. It will be cheaper and be how u want it, instead of another full rip-off or rev-hard kit.

i did some research. Do this

looks like a good deal and half of the price of full race. just not wire brushed.

To answer your question, yes you can buy the revhard kit and then buy a different exhaust manifold to bolt up to your turbo. And yes you will probably have to change your downpipe and possibly your intercooler pipes. But definately less likely that you will have to change those than you will have to change your downpipe. But if the revhard kit doesnt come with a downpipe, then just wait til you get the exhaust manifold that you want and the have the downpipe made to accomidate the manifold and turbo. Depending on what type of wastegate set-up you are running, you wont have to change that either. Well it doest really matter what wastegate setup you are running, you won’t have to change it. All you have to do is buy an exhaust manifold that is flanged for your style turbo. (i.e. t3, t4, t25, 14b, 16g, etc. etc.) Then your done, unless your downpipe needs some modification, which it may not if the manifold you buy is close enough to positioning the turbo like the revhard one does. Chances are you will just have to get a downpipe made for it though.
