I just bought a stock 1990 Integra RS and I was wondering what are some useful mods i can start with. thanks
What do you want out of the car?
not sure at the moment, def. leaning towards performance as opposed to cosmetics and also on a tight budget so I want to know what the more important mods are. thanks
A lot of people start out with either a cold air intake or short ram intake. Check Teg Tips to see how you can make yourself one.
first thing i did was remove my intake resanator (free mod)
next i installed my sri intake
short shifter
thats what i started with
Take out your intake resonator and replace your air filter with a k&n replacement. Awesome for $45.
You can also get a bottle of Castrol Super clean for 5 bucks and clear out the pink part of your tail lights to make them uber white.
Define performance. Do you want straight-line or cornering as your primary concentration (at least to start with)?
probably cornering since i’ll be mainly street driving, i was thinking bout starting wit some struts but since they cost alot i’m not sure if that would be the best first mod.
Springs, struts, and poly bushings…oh, and a short shifter (just because they’re fun).
i love my short shifter
everyone that has driven my car wants a short shifter now
and my friend(who im trying to teach to drive a stick) loves it too
any particular brands for the suspensions/struts? how bout the CAI?
New bushings, it will make a huge difference.
I say stick with basics and leave all the aftermarket stuff alone for now. Maintance your DA to make sure it runs right such as your oil, radiator fluid, tires, fuel system cleaner then after reading more info and understanding what you want to do then spend your money the right way by doing it right the first time. Good luck in your ride this forum is super helpful
I agree with mojo. Get all the usual stuff done and make sure its running right. Also be careful about budget mods. Don’t take the easy road and buy cheap parts. Remember that you get what you pay for. If you want to go for suspension then you need to ask yourself how much you want to drop it. Go with some springs and tokico blues if u want something mild. I would recommend some ground control coilovers with either tokico illumina’s or koni yellow’s if you want some adjustabillity and nice ride. The only problem is those set ups are a lot more pricey than just the springs. If I were you then I would spend some time searching on this site and researching before you jump into modding your car. I waiting over 2 years before I finally bought stuff to lower my car and that was after some very careful research to see what I wanted. Also check out teg tips, there are some nice free mods to do.
I wouldnt do any bolt-on beginner mod stuff. They just dont add any significant power to the car. Just drive it and enjoy it.
i bought my car just over a year ago. my first mods were jdm one pieces, DA GSR wheels, 92-93 rear lights, painted my bumper lenses, and the usual car care things. then in the spring i bought a wrecked 93 GSR and did the engine, tranny swap with a chipped P28. now im getting ready to buy koni yellows and tein stech springs. after that im going for an exhaust because the stock exhaust is killing my b17’s power. in the spring i will probably get my car repainted saxony blue. those are just a few things i did but you do whatever you want.
My first mod would be to learn how to drive the car well and save your money. After getting the car running right, I would then follow it up by upgrading the handling with wheels/tires/springs/shocks. It’s a bit of an investment but by saving from the start you’ll be able to get a decent setup.
I just picked up a 90 LS 2-dr that needs very little work initially, so I’m already thinking ahead to next spring (I have to deal with snow and don’t want to use my bumper as a plow). I’m a weight freak, so lightweight 15’s, Eibach springs, and adjustable shocks are on the list. Throw in sway bars and custom CF braces between the towers.
When i bought my car it already had an exhaust on it, so i bought an CAI to go with it(which greatly improved throttle response). Then i did all the fluids and tune-ups, including iridium plugs. Then i redid all the brakes with new rotors and pads. Next on my list is a suspension setup-tein ss, front and rear struts and sway bars. I want new rims but my cash will be dwindling by then(Unless someone wants to buy my dirtbike!!!). What ever you do…dont put on a fart can :gotrice:
before you do anything motor wise, try getting it leak down and compression tested to make sure your engine can handle what you eventually want to do to it. thats my 2 cents.
