Best of both worlds for my DA...

I have finally made my decision. looked around alot saw many swaps for a DA even looked into the newest one surfacing the K swap, but thats too much damn money dammit. so I have decided to join the best of both worlds into one. Im thinking of going B16 Head for its high revings and Ls block for its higher torque. right now im in the process of laying everything out and what ima use to build the motor before boost. However I do understand it is hard to make a reliable LSV as it is with out boost so im still researching on how to get over that obstacle. my HP target it 400-500 HP. if anyone has any input or help ur wlecome to pm me or juz respond. please all bad opinions keep to your self and keep it moving. Thank you for your time.

Shoot for 350whp…budget about $5k for everything. This includes updating the rest of your car (not just the motor) so you can drive it without killing yourself or anyone else

When you are ready for tuning, give me a shout

why dont you do a b20 bottom end for your build it will have more torque than the LS …but the only down fall is the cylinder walls are thin and since your going boost it might do a number on your block it would also be good if you do some research on the b20 with the B16 head…or you could just bore the ls block just a little… Just an idea

Not a bad decision to go LSV, the only thing I know right now, is that when going turbo, they produce alot of power and torque, however you really have to go out and change everything for the power that your looking for. sleeve’s, Rods, Pistons, Valvetrain, oh yeah catch cans and stuff like that to help it last and lastly but most importantly tuning. there’s probably alot more stuff I can’t think of right now, but study…study…study. Do what your doing now…you’ll be fine.

yea ill second that one… reading is everything… i read on atleast 4 different forums, peoples expieriences with boost and ls/vtec. i decided to go the ls/vtec route, tuning is pretty expensive not even to mention that with new minor bolt ons you still need to get it re-tuned… but good luck with the build… post pics!!

pics

im hoping to start soon but do to the fact im in school the build will be taking longer…but i will start posting pics as soon as im on my way to building it…as far as tuning il most likely be getting tuned by morris tuning from midnight auto or gato tuning…my friends have gotten tuned by both and both have great names out on the street as well as at the tracks…

also

if anyone has any opinion on any motor which they think would be a much better build feel free to speak out juz back up ur opinion…what im trying to build here is a car to hit the tracks on after i graduate and drive it sometimes here and there…looking to get into the low 11’s maybe or mid 10’s as soon as i graduate and start working interior will be going down to juz two seats by the way…

honestly i think the B16 would hold boost pretty damn good… think about it, higher compression, vtec at a low and safe psi for the boost. you should push around 260whp on about 3-6psi. my opinion of course but thats in wonderland… i got the ls, workin for the boost funds… im probably going to end up going with an ebay turbo and build my own kit from there… no ebay bov or wastegate is going on my car however lol…

I would stick with your gunz and build that LSV. if your not too sure about the LSV, you can always build a very good strong and fast LS. the problem that hounds the LS is it’s efficency to breath, none the less when you can get the P&P done and the cams, valvetrain…etc you can come close to matching a Vtec head stock. but one thing the LS & B20 blocks have that other Vtec engines don’t is torque. gotta love that torque on a LS. either way you go your good. don’t skimp out on anything. check this out

Stock head, stock intake manifold, stock throttle body: 417Hp to the wheels and 409 torque. Best ET with that was 11.6 @ 120 but also ran consistent 11.7 @ 129 a week later from some tuning. so almost 10mph faster and that was bouncing off rev limiter to cross the finish line.

gotta love that torque. that was quoted from xrtdac on T-I.

torque

yup thats whats drawn me in the most to this build the torque. i liked b20 before cuz its 2.0 but then i read how thin the block walls are and shit sucks for boost…i cant wait to see my complete build though cuz launching on a 500hp LSV must be great…hope i can put in great numbers for a DA later also…im mad excited about this build…

400+ hp is going to mean a pretty serious build. you’ll definetly be looking at a sleaved block, which isn’t cheap at all. be ready to spend atleast 1100+ in proper machine work unless you have a good hook up.

2.0?

will it make a big difference boring out the LS block to 2.0L and sleeving on the long run look at it?

don’t Bore it on stock sleeve’s to 2.0 you’ll be thinning out the sleeves just like you had a b20. keep it 1.8 until you get sleeves then do whatever you want. I went 1.85 on mine sleeved. that’s a precaution to make sure if something shall go wrong that I can still bore the block over without spending another $900 on sleeves.

If your shooting for 400 - 500 horsepower, then your more than likely going to be pushing the stock sleeves past the limit. With as much pressure as you will be exerting on them it would be best to have the block sleeved!

Lsv Boost

coll…juz making sure cuz i mean i knew i would have to sleeve up for this kind of power juz wanted to make sure about certain things…thanx everyone.
