Hey Guys, I just went through rollininmyda’s build thread and I noticed that I am planning on a similar build with the exception of doing a turbo setup instead of a N/A as originally planned. A quick bit of history on the car and plans just to set the stage. It’ll probably take me a good week to catch everyone up on where I am but i’ll try to post up pics to what I’ve done and what i’m doing.
The car is a 1992 Integra GS-R #1960. I got the car about 2 years ago and I’ve been learning as I go. It still has the original B17a1 and YS1 tranny. The motor has never been pulled and it currently has about 204k on it. The motor is tired but still runs great. Tranny doesn’t have any problems, in fact…the only real issue I have with the car right now is that the ABS light is on. All the interior is still original and actually it’s in pretty damn good shape besides some fading on the top from the sun. The Florida sun is pretty brutal on cars down here but the paint and body is still quite respectable.
Plans for the car are to have what I call a Weekend Warrior. It’ll come out of the garage when it’s all done just to have fun on the streets and to hit the track for quarter mile times. I have a company truck for my Full-Time so the car won’t need to be a daily. I originally planned on doing a B20 LS/Vtec NA but after tons of research and seeing what I would need, I instead opted to do a Turbo setup. I love wrenching on Hondas and Acuras so this is truly a labor of love for me.
I have no time limit on finishing this project. Really it’s just a matter of funding and taking my time to do it right with the right parts. I encourage any and all advice as I go along. I learn something new from the people on this site everyday. Hopefully others will learn from my trials as I’ve learned from theirs.
Here are a few pics from when I first rescued the car off some surfer kid:
First order of business, don’t ask me why…I had to paint the black valve cover. I don’t even know if this is the original valve cover from this car, but I always wanted to try out this Wrinkle Plus VHT paint.rops to whomever did the thread on this…sorry, I cannot remember the OP. I had to order the red paint from Amazon because the local shops only had it in black. It was like $24 with shipping.
2 hours of stripping the black paint off with airplane stripper, then 2 more hours, a crap load of patience, some painters tape and an x-acto knife…she’s all ready to paint. http://i.gyazo.com/f543201a1d0e599df2d295fa94c1faa8.png
Here it is! I really could not be happier with the way it came out. I baked it in the oven for like 90 minutes on 220, It made my house stink like ish for a week, but the results are awesome. The Type R wrinkle texture is really exactly what I was looking for.
Fast forward a year and here is my beloved Buford. This is just before I started ripping it all apart for the suspension overhaul and motor-ectomy:
I absolutely love this car. I think it looks great the way it is now, which is why I plan on spending a ton of money and lots of time on it. This will end up being my dream build. My first phase after some of the obvious quick accessories that included some JDM 1 piece headlights, some Stanley side markers, a new set of 50/50 tail lights and a Skunk2 weighted shift knob…will be a complete suspension overhaul. I’ll dig up some pics and post the progress I’ve made so far.
Cool! You are officially the first subscriber. I want to thank Colin also for the advice he’s helped me with along the way. Colin, you seem to be a wealth of DA knowledge. I started with the drivers side front. Here are a few things I’ve picked up. Some of these pics are a few months old but I’m trying to get everyone up to speed at what I’ve done so far.
I had to source some OEM front upper control arms so I could use these SPL Performance Adjustable ball joints. They fit perfectly btw. Those who have been on the 2nd Gen Integra Club Facebook Group page have probably seen these already…this build thread has been a long time coming. Here are a few pics of the suspension upgrades in the front.
This was the first one I did, I ended up re-doing everything, taking the bushings back off, repainting the UCA and it came out much better.
Here are a few before and afters of some of the suspension pieces. Obviously these are the rear pieces.
The previous owner went nuts with red spray paint. Basically painting everything he could find. Who knows why?? I ended up having to basically strip every single piece I planned on keeping and respraying them all with Eastwood underhood black. They came out pretty good…although I probably would do a few things different next time. Here is how they came out.
I had another picture of the rear LCA but it didn’t post for some reason. The OE bushings were completely toast. I ended up replacing them with Hard Race pieces on the advice of a few on this forum. Hands down the best upgrade I’ve made so far. The rear control difference was literally night and day.
Looks good man! Glad to see you’re tackling the suspension. Our bushings are always in such rough condition its surprising they haven’t failed already. I’ll be keeping my eye on this thread.
Any pics of the top of the SPC ball joints? I have the same but just feel weird using them because the top nut barely threads on. Are you going to use thread locker? Even when I used it without the flat washer it pretty much almost sat flush with the threads. Just curious on your thoughts.
Looking good like how you are going thru your suspension I did the same thing to mine on my build an love the battery choice as I am replacing mine it died lol

Any list of goals? Things you plan to do?[/QUOTE]
Yeah, I have a ton of plans. This thread is a bit late coming so at this time I have completed all 4 sides with the suspension components overhaul with the exception of the coilovers. I’m just on the OE struts with Skunk2 springs while I wait for the right deal to come along for a Koni/GC setup. I spent a ton of money and time on the rear and it really came out fantastic. The difference maker by far being the Hard Race bushings in the Rear Trailing Arms. I found a sweet thread that gave an outstanding DIY on how to properly ‘clock’ the bushings if you ride a bit lower than stock. (Props to Wes Vann) I’ll post some pics if I can find some good ones.
Here is the link for anyone wanting to check it out. The info is a bit dated as it talks about a way to use replacements from another teg blah blah, but the section on how to 'clock the bushings when you install them was of great value. Enjoy! http://www.performanceforum.com/wesvann/honda/bushing/bushing.html
