Hey Colin so I have the legend 2 piston calipers and need to know what pads to run the gs model or non gs or do they both fit even though the bracket is different. I’m using the 23mm and just picked up the mini base model 07 rotors.
You will need to run the ones that fit NSX, GS (and I believe also the same as Type R). I have the Legend 2 Pot Calipers with Mini Cooper Rotors and I bought pads specifically for the GS.
My understanding was that the fitment was the same and that all of those mentioned calipers use the same pad. The part numbers could be different because of compound, not fitment. But I’d have to do some interwebz research to confirm this and unfortunately don’t have time at the moment. Do a few searches, the answer should be readily available.
well I’m asking since I’m running the 23mm bracket that holds the pads from a base model legend.
I ended up using the gs dual piston pads and they do fit so its pretty much the same for all models.
ive had them for 1 month now and cant really tell if they do brake better or not when compared to stock, what I did notice was the added weight in the front wheels. my car is light as it is with the entire ac and abs removed, half civic radiator, ktuned traction bar , jdm bumper support and carbon hood.
I have a stock ls and it would pick up quick but now its slightly heavier, now it doesn’t bounce over small dips it kinda pounds right into them. I mean this is added weight to the hub only, I was looking to see if I could source a 2 piece rotor for the 07 base mini but cant find anything. heard they could be up to 8lbs lighter over stock. if I cant find any other ways to lighten then I might consider going back to stock.
I did have some small fitment issues but managed to squeeze them into my 15" bbs. I had to relocate the counter weights in the inner barrel for clearance, so this isn’t for all 15" wheels. I only have like 3mm of clearance from the spokes to the caliper and about 5mm from the inner barrel to the top of the caliper. I would recommend sanding the calipers down for like 15min each side to get the extra clearance.
I do have pics to show but for some reason this site wont let me upload or link anything
The fact of the matter is that most people don’t really need bigger brakes and that the stock sized brakes with good pads is more than enough (assuming your stock brakes are all in good working order). And yes, they are MUCH heavier than the stock brakes. Even in my situation where I was cooking the stock sized brakes and upgraded due to that I feel like I may want to change due to weight. Either go back to the stock sized calipers plus race pads or maybe do the S2000 calipers which are a lot lighter than the ITR. Too bad the Spoon calipers are so expensive because that’d be even better (pretty sure these are light compared to the stock steel calipers).
As for rotors, I’m not sure how much weight would be saved by going to a two piece design but I can’t imagine it being worth the price as all the 2 piece setups I’ve seen have been very expensive. But if you’re looking for 2 piece rotors I’d contact Stoptech to see what they have and also ICB X R Crew recently designed a new setup but all I’m seeing now is them paired with Project Mu rotors which means that a set is nearly $700. They’re designed for use with Spoon Calipers but I think that it’s the same for Legend/ITR since the Spoon calipers use the same rotor and are bolt on for ITR’s.

So I did some research turns out the mini rotor is 2lbs more and the legend caliper is a little over 1 lbs without brackets.
So 3.5lbs on each side. Looking at it like that it doesn’t seem bad. I guess you would get the same reaction when going up in rim size like 15" to 16".
Doesn’t seem like a lot but it may be significant when you compare it to your total unsprung weight. Adding unsprung weight and sprung weight is not an apples to apples comparison - although most people won’t feel a difference. Wheels are tough too because there are so many factors, 16’s aren’t necessarily heavier than 15’s. Wheel and tire weights can vary greatly between different brands/models…etc.
I completely get you on the unsprung weight, that’s exactly what I noticed with this upgrade. it definitely was noticeable for me, other than that everything else is good.
like mentioned before I would definitely sand the outside of the calipers to get the best clearance possible, nothing major just a light 10-15min job.
