Black as night. 91 DA project

Hi, I’ve been on g2ic for three years and I figure its about time I post my car.
First I’m gonna give some background. 2 years ago I managed to blow my engine and lose my license for a period of 18 months. Now I’m rebuilding my car.

I bought a donor car it is a 92-93gs and now I’m swapping in the motor, doing an obd1 and auto to manual conversion. Most of the wire swap is done and I welded the manual transmission mount to my car.

I’m gonna post the pics in a few hours cuz I’m working on the car which is at my gf’s house now. I just want to share my progress and experiences and I welcome some “constructive criticism”.

You know you can get a new license before the old one is expired, right? You didn’t need to wait 18 months after loosing it to get a new one! Sorry, just messing with you, couldn’t help it!

You sure are biting off a lot with the wiring. Sounds like fun! Are you just straight up swapping over harnesses, or are you converting the harness in the 91 to OBD1?

What model is the 91? Are you going to remove the ABS wiring? If you decide to, I have some tips…

I look forward to seeing some pictures of your progress. Keep us up to date.

Its a 91ls
I’m swapping over all of the wiring but I’m leaving the abs out. I’m doing it this way for a few reasons, I want the power locks, I’m swapping sunroofs cuz the donor has black interior, the seat belt wiring is bad in my car but the donors is good, and I just want the obd1. The other thing is that I made a brake booster delete and I don’t know which master cylinder to use (i need a new one either way…).

The wiring isn’t all that bad. I just finished rewiring the engine bay. Honestly the hardest part was getting the drivers side plug in the hole… It made me feel really retarded.

It took me a while to plug mine up slso but gl. I was gona swap harnesses but ma boys gona just bypass the auto harnes gor me gl post pics as il b doin the auto to manuxl swap nxt weekend hopefjlly

Lookin’ good! If you decide to take out the actual wiring for the ABS, just know that there is a pink connector on the inside cabin harness where almost all of the wires are for the ABS…but not all of them. There are 2? wires that go to your automatic seatbelts that you won’t want to cut. I can tell you that the wiring for the ABS doesn’t weigh that much though, if I were to do it again, I would just remove the ABS computer, and just cut the plugs in the engine bay and just hide them in the loom as much as possible.

when you get your car back on the road make sure to let us know so we can get a meet going on…

I was thinking about just leaving them on for now. I’m gonna put a new wrap around the writes in the engine bay so I’ll pull the wires at that point. I just wanna get it running soon so I’m trying to avoid stuff that I can do later.

Orlando_GSR
I was gonna post on the orlando newer thread but you beat me to it.

thats a huge project! GL with it

Tearing out the cabin wiring

Taking out the trunk wires

Old wires and seat belt motors in the random parts pile

Donor car interior coming out

Carpet out

New wires put in my car (Didn’t break a single clip in the process)

Pulled the steering columns out

Steering columns swapped
I swapped the columns because the ignition wiring didn’t fit quite right. Not sure why. oh well atleast this steering wheel looks way newer and the u-joints have no play.

After i swapped the steering columns i decided to switch the ignitions internals so that i wouldn’t need to use two different keys. Pretty simple.

This is the key i dont want. The internals will only come out if the key is in this position.
First thing to do is to remove the little screw sticking out.

Then you need to push this little pin in with a pick. the pin can only be pushed in if the key is in the right position.

This is the pin.

Key cylinder out. Installation is the reverse. just push it in and put the screw back in.

20-30 small parts from honda (injector o-rings, small shifter pieces, etc…)

Little goodie/insurance. I dont trust what i cant tell for sure. i wish all cars had these… :frowning:

ES shifter bushings and a curious kitty

Sadly i didn’t get as much done as i planned because it rained all day here.

Just got the dash back in and the engine will be in soon.
I’m still missing a few parts though.
-blox intake manifold with atleast a b18b throttle body
-aftermarket exhaust

  • waiting for my new rear view mirror which is taking forever
    -plug wires
    -brake master cylinder
    -other various small mainenance parts

Ugh… Come on financial aid, Hurry up! :frowning:

Paying for the project car with student loans…always a wise choice. :uhoh:

I never did that when I was in school. :bs: Lol.

Good stuff man, you seem to be working on this pretty fast, I’m impressed.

Looking good! If you want a shift boot hit me up, I’ll be glad to make one with whatever color stitching you’d like

seems like you have alot going on with this project, good luck!

What student loans? Good GPA n crappy income means free money from the government, only reason why I have a good gpa is I ace my auto classes in my sleep…
And the speed is due to me being an out of work mechanic who was lucky enough to meet a girl whose dad owns a body shop… Its pretty cool though because he’s teaching me to paint and I’m gonna start doing the welding when I get better, and mechanical stuff when I finish my ford certs and ase. My first welding project was a plug for the breather box behind the engine block (not pretty but it is effective).

Btw I have a b16 DC header. I kinda want to use them but I don’t really want to not notch my crossmember, so I’m playing with the idea of making my own custom header. Any thoughts, ideas, and opinions would really be appreciated. :hmm:

Gotcha. I had Pell and S.M.A.R.T. grants when I was in school. They helped a lot but I still had to take out loans.
Anyway.

What DC header do you have? I thought you only had to notch for the 4-1?

Its the b16 tri-y. I was told I had to also remove the bar passing under the engine… I haven’t tested it because I’m still missing some parts and I’m not putting the motor in till I get them.
