I have a steam coming out of my valve cover and out of where the dipstick goes. I assume its blow by. I also have alot of white smoke blowing out of my exhaust. I bought a new head gasket but I wanted to know if i really need new rings or if maybe this is all due to the head gasket. there is no mixure of gas and antifreeze. I just dont wanna do any unnessesary work. I would go put on my new head gasket but I dont wanna end up finding out i need new rings afterword. is there anyway of knowing ahead of time? I was only running 7.25 on a tuned afc with 450’s
i would assume its probably cracked ring lands… if your lucky, just the rings and head gasket… good luck
well if it is “ringlands”. which I didnt think 7 psi would blow in a week with the tuned afc hack. would a compression test tell me if it was the rings or “ringlands” are the problem. Ive seen 11psi on this tune. and my motor has about 40,000 with a high flow pump 255, 450’s, Fmic and a tiny T3 .42 turbo. I dont see how this would crack pistons. but anyway my main question is would the comp test explain anything? I never had any knocks or heard any detonation. But it did get hot. any help here?
Compression test will tell you if your rings arent sealing. That could mean just the rings are shot, or it could mean that your ringlands are gone. You’ll just have to take apart then engine to see which it is.
either one you still have to take the motor apart… one just cost more to fix then the other… anyways, i wouldnt continue to drive the car like this… you might end up making things a lot worse then it already it
