Blower heater question

I searched and found great fixes on fixing the blower motor. My blower motor was shot due to water seeping in and burning out the motor.

I have replaced blower motor, the 40 amp fuse and still wasn’t working. Hooked up my new blower motor to my battery and sure enough it works fine.

Got my multimeter out and was able to determine that the Black/Blue (ground) going from the blower motor plug to the switch is not grounding. Does that mean the vent speed/ac switch is bad??

Then I would check the blower switch, make sure it has a ground input, [black].
And it should be a blue/black at the motor, it is directly from the switch.
The blue/black, blue/yellow, blue/white and blue coming from the switch, should all rear as ground when blower switch is on…
blue - speed 1
blue/white - speed 2
blue/yellow - speed 3
blue/black - speed 4

All but the blue/black go through the blower resistor “pack” the blue goes through 3 resisters, for the slowest speed the blue/white goes through 2 resistors, the blue/yellow goes through 1 resistor and the blue/black goes directly to the blower motor, so it is unlikely that it is the resister “pack” problem but a problem at the switch itself.:hmm:94

Thanks for your help FCM…This is why i love the g2ic community. I get straight, intelligent, informative answers.

I’m bumping this for the same prob. I put in a new blower and still nothing. I’m getting a new resistor right now, but maybe I should check the switch too. Did you mean the 1-4 dial or what specifically? I’ve never done this before…lol. My problem is I have no air whatsoever and my fuse is fine.

You can meter the wires at the resister pack plug to check the switch, all 4 leads at the plug will show a full ground, one at a time depending on switch position.:whisper: 94

Thanks, I’ve been reading your other posts and it’s looking like my switch is bad. I couldn’t get more than 5V at the blower on all speeds and at the time I didn’t think about any ignition switch but that will be tested next lol

You should have 12V-13.5V at the blower plug, [blue/white] as soon as you turn on the ign. to run.

The blue/black lead is the ground, it is a “full” ground when the blower speed switch is set to 4, [full speed] it is the ground that is switched, not the power.:whisper:

If you are reading only 5V on the blue/white, the problem is not the switch, check the main acc. fuse, in the under dash fuse box.:stare: 94

Ok I will check that first. It was ok before I put in the new blower but who knows what could’ve happened…I’ll let you know.

Hey, does it now blow on any speeds at all?
All u have too do is run a new ground from the plug that goes into the fan speed switch. My blower wasnt working at all on any speeds, found out it was that ground from the back of the switch(all black wire coming out of the plug, not the really thick black one), ran a new one and it works great! And if its not that then it could be the power (blue/white) from the ignition…just run a new one too.

thanks for the advice…lol when it stops raining I’ll check all this stuff

Why not find and fix the problem, instead of just jerryrigging it?:hmm:94

How is running a new ground or power wire jerryrigging it?

Running new leads is not fixing the problem, it’s bypassing it, find the problem and fix it, then you will not need to run new leads.:whisper: 94

Here’s an update…put in another resistor and I have air! But it sounds like the motor bearings are going bad, sounds like a drill or something. I guess that’s what my problem was though. Here’s what it looked like:

LOL, burnt to a crisp.

I would get that motor replaced, it is what took out the resistor pack, lots of resistance.:stare:94

Well I put in another one at the same time, what is weird is today it doesn’t work at all again. It snowed a couple inches last night, and I know I have the water leak, but my floor is completely dry. I’m wondering what the hell happened overnight!!!

Did you replace it with a new motor or a used one?94

It was out of another DA…but it was working fine yesterday! I’m gonna see if the fuse blew for some reason…as soon as this snow melts…bleh.

A not so uncommon problem with used electrical components is they will work one time, then blow when you cut power or the next time you power them up.94

Ok, I will make sure all the connections are good and the fuse isn’t blown, and I have the old blower (not sure if it works though) and I can see if hooking that up works…god I hate this. Especially because it’s so COLD right now!! And the heater knob is broken :frowning: it’s loose and it won’t move the valve…arg.
