ive finally tuned my da9 and i put a bw front bar on it… when i have the bumper on after a while or traveling at speeds lower then 100kmph itll start to over heat…
however if i take the bumper off itll run cool all day long… has anyone else had this problem. and if so what happened to solve this…
atm im looking at putting the stock bar on and cut it so the intercooler will fit. this seems to be the trend of what people are doing.
First of all by “bw front bar”, I am guessing you mean a Black Widow front bumper. If so, does your intercooler fill the whole middle “grill” area? That would be the first thing that I would look at. If it does, maybe think about making a scoop or other diversion device to divert air from the side vents toward the radiator. In addition, you could make a cooling plate that goes over the radiator support to keep the air going straight through the radiator instead of up and over the radiator support and past the radiator. Are you running a full size radiator, or the half size civic one? If it is the half size, build a plate to block the space on the other side where the full radiator used to occupy. post a pic of your front end with and without the bumper if possible, then I could really see if I can see any big issues.
I dont have any issues at all, I dont even have to run a radiator fan if I dont want to, but I do anyways. My temps stay at or below the stock normal level. I am also running an aftermarket aluminum civic radiator. I think I saw your thread and you had a stock type. That shouldnt really matter though. I also think that my intercooler blocks more space in front than yours. I would try the block off plates if you dont already have those, they seem to have helped a couple members on here that I have seen, and aftermarket companies make them for tons of cars, so they must be pretty effective.
P.S. what kind of car is that one in the back? Almost looks like a 4th gen Supra, is it?
its got heat wrap all over it… on the manifold and throttle cable…
yeh i have the 10 inch fan there infront of the condenser but i couldnt fit a fullsize in there…
what block off plate are we talkin about a plate that runs along side the radiator so that it diverts more air into it??
should u try with stock bar? what do u guys run…
ps. yes thats a jza80 supra in the backyard its twin turbo, pwr rad and 100mm intercooler in the engine bay, but its auto… however its got a t78 waiting to be fitted…
I run a stock 90-91 bumper with the OEM kit on it. Yeah, I would try the block off on the side of the radiator, and then one on top if that isnt enough.
P.S. I have seen some pretty fast auto supras, including a few with the T-78! That should be a fun project as well!
Yeah, I cut out the grill completely on mine because I knew already that it would interfere. then I held the bumper up to the car and looked for any other obvious areas that needed work. I shaved bits and pieces off in large chunks at first, then smaller pieces as I got closer to it fitting. I just used a dremel, a hacksaw, tin snips, and a jigsaw to do it. Once you start doing it you will just see what you have to do, and get it done! Not hard at all!
can i have some pics please… im not that stupid i mean i already done all this lol its just interesting to c what others have done… guess im nosey its funny because the bw style bumper has more holes and more areas for air to get in where the da9 bumper has less…
is that radiator the single core? if so, you really should think about the dual core replacement. your air passages are open and it seems that you shouldn’t be having any issues. at highway speeds your Radiator fan is not going to matter but I’m concerned if maybe it’s a bottle neck. meaning it’s slowing the air from going through the radiator. that’s why most people mount them inside where it is pulling. I’m running a xtreme front bumper and I have no overheating issues. I dunno.
Half rad is the problem. Air follows the path of least resistance.
Right beside your half rad is a totally empty spot, that where the wind is traveling and thus on hitting your rad.
Make up a block off plate and put it beside your rad and that should solve all of your issues.
what about thermostats what are u guys running? stock?
i had a leaking hose fixed that today we had a 35 degree celsius day and i had some heating problems until i reached 100kmph or stoped when it seems to stop increasing and start to go down.
im now starting to think the thermo posible spinning wrong way… but i got it from a friend and this is how his was running i will have to check it when it cools down a little
has anyone used insertion rubber as a diffuser infront of the turbo?? to direct more air onto the rad??
