Boost for a month lots of white smoke

Ok so today I pull up to my friends house and Im letting my car idle before i turn it off(no turbo timer)…and after about 5 minutes we see white smoke heavily pouring outta my apexi N1.I just installed my homemade turbo kit about a month and a half ago t3@9psi,450’s,uberdata,basemap by xenocron etc.Anyhow the car was smoking for a total of about 1 minute at idle.I then left and after about 2 blocks i stopped and looked back no more white smoke pouring out.Ive seen a bad compressor housing cause something like this but why did it only last for a minute or so.Maybe its because of the rich basemap(i hope) :cross: ?Well Im worried and I want to figure out if it could be anything serious.Any ideas? :hmm:

What was the temperature outside at the time?

Usually white smoke = leaky head gasket tho.

How is the water level in the radiator? Do you have a water temp gauge (stock doesn’t count), if so what’s the temp?

It was pretty hot outside…i do live in south florida. No water temp gauge…coolant level was ok i guess it could use maybe 1/2 gallon at most.my head gasket is ok(im pretty sure)Although my car doesnt really get hot(stock gauge) Never even sees 1/2 way to hot side.Stays fairly cool.

I would drain your oil and take a look at it… see what it tells you. same with under the valve cover.

I just did an oil change less than 2 weeks ago…coolant as well but i guess ill look again

I may have added too much oil due to a small leak i fixed yesterday.Checked it out: Oil is clean and perfectly level. No foam, milky appearnce, overall Tells me head gasket is ok.Coolant is perfectly clean and level.WTF…Any other ideas.I guess im going to have to find out the hard way and drive and cross fingers.Any other help and/or opinions would be greatly appreciated. :hugs:

Get it tuned or at least on a Wideband!

Was it WHITE WHITE or like a light gray/blueish white. If its a pale light white, then most likely just rich at idle.

It was white white and i havnt seen it since! I dont know anyone around here that tunes uberdata or i would. Thanks for the map by the way and the chipping kit.Car is running sweet.I cant lie i give it some here and there but ive only put about 300 miles on it since install and i mostly stay in vacuum.Know anybody in south florida Ft lauderdale/miami area that tunes? Yea i think it was because of the richness.Im getting a CEL too! Its O2 sensor CEL so I think its because of the richness I experienced the momentary cloud of white smoke.Power is there! Fluids are clean and theres no oil leaking from head!

Shit, i cant think of there name right now…they are popular in sport compact racing…they have tuned a few Uberdata setups and put down great numbers (400+ whp)

I’ll think of the name sonner or later.

Also chekc out the Uberdata tuner directory.

Hmmm I wonder who youre talking about…Maybe south florida performance. To be honest I was looking for more of a wideband do it at home guy who can street tune because Im so low on cash.Eventually Ill spend a couple hundred bucks for a nice dyno tune but right now I dont have that option. If you can find anyone in this area you know through uberdata forums thatd be nice.As for the white smoke: I havnt seen it again.Ill try letting my car idle for 10 minutes or so and see if it decides to come again.

No, not SFP…heard bad shit about them.

I just remembered. Titan Motorsports…not sure where in FL they are, but I have heard good things and they dont shy away from Uberdata.

Stock head studs?

You may have gotten a touch of head lift and maybe some coolant got into the exhaust track briefly causing the ransom white smoke…a pure guess, but possible I imagine.

Yes stock headstuds…Hmm is that possible even if I wasnt ragging on the car.I took like a 10 minute drive before I came to a stop and let the car idle…then it was idling for another good 5 minutes while i was talking before the smoke started… :hmm: Whatever it was it came out of no where during idle and went away as soon as i started driving again.Maybe ill post on HMT and see what they think.

if you might’ve added too much oil, if you get to a certain point it will smoke. i have a friend who doesnt know too much about cars, trying to add oil in his rsx, ended up adding a whole extra 5 quarts in. then after i drained, and new oil change, it still smoked for a long time.

oil might’ve got to a point where it reached the combustion chamber, or got into the air line. you can do a few things to check if oil has gotten into the system from the top.

pull off your charge piping from the throttle body, check at the lower areas inside the pipe and TB for oil, check your pcv valve, and hose, check for oil there also… if there are any signs of oil there, then that can help you further diagnose where your problem can be comming from.

Dude they(Titan) Are in Orlando Florida off of Goldenrod Blvd across from Sam’s Club and my home boys Shop Street Dreams it’s kinda behind a Mc Donalds

im in south fl and a buddy of mine tunes uberdata if u need a street tune…i made 304whp on my stock ls (14psi) but id run 17psi on the street…shoot me an email powell69t@gmail.com if u wana do something. but white white doesnt sound like a rich condition to me

hey, would you do me a favor and post your BIN file for your LS on my BIN site? I’d love to try it out on my B18b as im going Uberdata shortly…plus it would be good for others.

thanks

Chris

i live on the west coast of south florida and a buddy of mine does uberdata and and he also has connection with another friend of ours that has a mobile dyno. which mean you could do it at your house on the dyno with a wideband. shoot him an e-mail fmystreetracer@comcast.net

ill have to ask the tuner if he wants to throw the map up…i let him keep the files on the laptop and i gotta see if he still has it…im running a ls/vtec now so im not sure if he has the old map…but im sure he has plenty of gsr maps he might throw up
