build progress!!! 56K sorry :)

well Im still putting parts on the car but I figured that I would start a thread to keep everyone posted…This is my first full motor build other then a couple v8s that we built back in highschool.

Block:
arias pistons 9:1 cr
eagle rods
arp 2000 rod bolts
acl bearings
acl thrust washers
bored .5mm over

head:
pretty much stock
minor port job
arp head studs
polished cams
str cam gears

Transmission is the stock a1 trans with a stage 4, 6 puck sprung competition clutch

i’m sure there is a bunch of other things that the list is missing, so ill update it as I remember them

anyways on to the pics…

polished crank back from the shop

block also back from the shop… hot tanked, bored, honed and deck checked

another shot of the block from the other side

thrust washers installed

main bearings installed

kinda got ahead without taking pics but here is a pic with pistons, rods, crank and bearings all installed.

arp headstuds in and ready for the head and gasket

pic of the head after mild port, valve job and hot tank

cams, cam gears, new timing belt, tensioner and water pump

old motor waiting to get pulled out

i’ll have more pics up soon, just have to upload them

looks great man…what kind of numbers are you looking to get?

how much did all the machine work cost ya?

I did the head and block at separate times so probably cost me more then it should have…
machining for the block, polishing of the crank and hot tanking was about $500cdn
valve job, porting, polishing cams was about $350cdn

as far as power goes im hoping 250-300 for the time being… probably more in the future

awsome man…well good luck nad keep us posted

more pics

motor took about 3hrs to pull out…I know too long but i’mm sure i’ll be faster next time… oh and I dropped the motor out the bottom because I couldnt find anyone to loan me a cherry picker.

parts all swapped over

like magic the new one was in

I decided to put everything back to stock just to make sure the motor ran…
I wasnt sure what to expect but it cranked over and actually ran very well, other then the fact that the distributor was noisy…(not a big deal as im converting to OBD1)

Just mocked up the intercooler today

some pics of the parts still to be installed

room full of packages

2.5" couplers

t-bolt clamps

boost and oil pressure guages

obd1 distributor

box full of madrel bends

tuning!!!

dsm 450cc black tops

thats all for now…
more to come

nice build keep the updates coming!!

looking good man…should have cleaned up the engine bay before stuffing that nice clean motor in there…

very true, its not like it’s easy to do though its a project in itself

yeah I know I should have cleaned the bay but I was very anxious to throw the motor in… I kinda regret it now but oh well…

anyways I had a couple minutes to work on her today and got the fuel pressure guage installed…

i’ll try to install the FPR tomorrow or the day after

i wasnt bustin your balls man…i know how it is when you are eager to put a motor in…

finally got a chance to install the FPR today…Was more straight forward than I thought it would be…

here it is:

at first i was lost then was like oh… i really have to cut it huh???:giggle:

made some progress yesterday as I decided to throw the turbo stuff on…
got the turbo, manifold, wastegate and oil feed line installed…

Subscribed. I’m a sucker for a good build thread. Nice work!!

sorry that I haven’t updated my build thread but I’ve been busy working to fund the build…
Anyways, at the moment I’ve completed the installing the motor and turbo kit. I currently have the car running on one of chris’s basemaps (xenocron). Things left to do are:
Get exhaust installed - running a vibrant muffler w/ 18" resonator
fix my overheating issue - no idea what’s causing is it

oh and I did a compression test today and here are the results.

first test I did cycled 6 times through compression
165 160 160 160

second test was with 8 cycles
170 170 170 170

Anybody know which one is right?

-get fully tuned

-mount guages

hope to be done within the next 2 weeks…
here are some updated pics and a quick vid… Video is not very impressive as I didnt want to give’r too much on a basemap.
If there is anything on the car you guys want to see, let me know and I’ll snap a pic…
enjoy

Ghetto downpipe lol

All charge pipes installed

guages just sitting on the dash

chipped ecu, ostrich etc… (messy i know)

first drive

Nice build, maybe I missed it, but what Manifold and Turbo are you running?

to be honest, Im not sure who makes the manifold…I bought it off a buddy of mine… The turbo is a T3 .60/63 off a old t-bird.

Awesome build, looks great! How much boost are you planning on running? i’m assuming with a built motor you’ll be looking for more than 9 or 10psi, right? You’ll need bigger injectors at that point as the DSM 450’s will be running around a 90% duty cycle. Otherwise good stuff, have fun!

nice build keep it up

yea right now Im just running off the wastegate which is only 5psi… waiting for the mbc to come in the mail and then maybe run 10psi for the time being…
will up the boost when I install the pump I have and get larger injectors… not sure what this turbo is good for though but we’ll see i guess!!
