building a b18a for turbo soon and i need help/suggestions

well iam going to be doing my first build and wire tuck over the next while and i would like to do the following in this order: wire tuck, new rad support, paint, some interior, suspension, and then build up my b18a for a turbo set up … but i have no clue on what suspension to go with that is low but yet a nice ride and what the best build specs are for a turbo …? i want the engine to be built as much as possible on a low budget but yet turbo worthy for a good boost ?

to (thejunkman: i know you are going to read this lol and dont bag on me please i just need some help… dont we all)

First off let me just say this:
We can tell you what you want to know. We can answer your questions.
But I HIGHLY recomend researching many different sources, for a great amount of time before touching the engine(for a turbo) or buying anything. I am not talking about a couple days reading this and that. I am talking about a large timeframe. There is a lot to know, and learn before just slapping a turbo on an engine and calling it a day.
I am not trying to discourage you. I am trying to let you know. Turbo is not for the faint of heart.

Also I am sure you are not the first one to post.
“Eh, yeah I want a turbo what do I need”
So you could problably find a whole lot of info searching.

If this thread doesnt get locked and you can get some useful replies, then
We need more info…

how do you intend to use this car?
Is this going to be a daily driver?
Is this going to be a track car?
How much power are you reaching for?
Define low budget… How much do you have to spend?
What is your limitations concerning time? How long before you plan to have it done?
How long do you want it to last?

there is much more to ask but I will stop there for now.

i know its not “ehh i wanna go turbo fools” me and my buddy always messed with his turbo 300Z and stuff but now i would like to get some advice from some teg people who have gone turbo and done it the right way… not the little wangsters and kids on here who think ebay and a day of work makes a turbo teg lol … i want to do it the right way and i know there are plenty of people here who do things the right way no matter how long it takes … and those are the people i wanna hear from… assuming you know what you are talking about since you replied lol … i just want maybe a forum or site that can help me understand and what exactly it is that iam going to need to do and such for a good, clean, & boosting engine.

well money … not to shure yet … just for building the engine i would like to put about 3,500 or 4,000 into it but iam hoping to do the most of the build myself at my house.

its going to be a daily driver/ scca track car hopefully

power ? umm well that depends . about 3,500 maybe 4 grand just into the block, decent ys1 tranny with LSD,ecu, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail,MSD, and then eventually getting a turbo timer, and turbo excessories…

what amount of power is possible with 4,000 not inluding the turbo & piping, water cooled turbo is the way i would like to go

time … well i hope for the car to be down for 6 months at the minimum and a year at the most … i dont expect to have a turbo set up in my possesion before 7 to 8 months at the least

well… so much for help so far

moved to “forced induction” — might find more help here bro

Are you wanting to spend 4,000 on everything, or just the motor?

oh sorry about the wrong category guys…

anyways to the build …

the 4k is just on the motor …

You shouldn’t have any problem then man!

well some advice on what compression ratio, where to start, brands, pistons… this is my fist build just want to get some brands and experienced advice

I don’t know a lot about turbos.

But i see clearly that you realize that you want to keep the B18A and clean it up. But if you go throw 4k into just the block i would go on ebay buy a gsr swap for 3k. I have noticed that gsr block is on of the most commenly boosted.

Remember about the miles on the block matters!

if he builds the b18a turbo it will be way more powerful that the stock b18c turbo. no need to spend money there.

yah … no matter what iam keeping the stock b18a1 … i dont know why lol just stuck with the idea of the original motor and such lol … i would like to be able to pass smog but yet have quite a bit of whp … i mean like a lot of whp lol

$3-4000 sounds about right. To give you an idea, this is what I have experienced :
I’m probably about that much on the built engine without the turbo parts. It was supposed to be a simple rebuild. Hone and rings. Turned into 0.5mm overbore, new rods, pistons, rings, all new main and rod bearings, headgasket, all new seals and gaskets, head studs, water pump, oil pump, intake manifold, fuel rail, injectors. While I was at it, I rebuilt a 5 speed transmission that will be swapped in place of an auto.
I’m ready to drop it all in, but I’m waiting for a guy with the hoist so it’ll be a few more weeks. This part of the project has taken me about 1 1/2 years researching and building (the only part I paid anyone to do was the boring and head reconditioning).
Hope this gives you an idea.
Good luck.

3-4k on just the block? go get yourself a dart block and build it if thats how much you are willing to spend on a block.

lol … a dart block ? you have to remember this is my first build …

as for the 3 to 4 thou. into the block … that is what i planned and expected to do … because there is no point in going turbo if you dont do it the right way … if you just do a minor rebuild and go for the boost then good luck getting your car home lol

if you are looking to put 4k on the motor, you might aswell sleeve it… Im building my motor right now too I think I’ll go through about 2k… I’ve got arias pistons, eagle rods(arp bolts), acl bearings, bore/hone, micropolish crank and will be getting some minor head work done soon…have fun

for $4k you could have a 84mm sleeved block and a worked vtec head.

no need to spend that kind of dough unless you are pushing 400+whp.

iam planning on doing the same as this guy is alos in about the same price range but iam not sure as to what all is needed … i have never built a turbo set up yet … i would like to have about 400whp but also smog lol talk about swapping the engine before smog haha … well what are the best brands for pistons rods and such ?
