burning oil...

well i’ve had my turbo in for awhile and my car and white smoke has been comin out the tail pipe when i run it hard… u guys know what the problem could possibly be?? i’m only running a 15g turbo on my b18a at 5.5 psi non intercooled… i got a msd inline fuel pump and a vortech 12:1 fmu.

white smoke is from burning (boiling) water…blown head gasket

how the water level in you radiator? is your radiator overflow can full?

some pple said burning oil was white smoke… but the water level is ok… i don’t think it’s a blown head gasket tho…

blue smoke = burning oil
white smoke = burning water
black smoke = running damn rich

If someone told you different they were wrong…

How much smoke are we talking here? After how long of running does it start smoking? Does it do it all the time, or only right after start up? What kind of climate do you live in? What exhaust system are you running? Does the car sit for long periods of time outside between driving?

why don’t you think it’s a BHG?

it’s not a lot of smoke when i drive normally… when it’s idleing or if i just drive it normal it’s not bad… but when i punch it or race it god damn it looks like my engine blew up or something haha… :uhoh: i live in northern ca so the weather isn’t too bad like 70’s… i’m running a 2.5 inch down pipe… catco cat… and 2 1/4 exhaust piping mated to the stock muffler… i daily drive the car too as well… thanks for all ur help… u seem to give me the best advice on g2ic.

have you had a compression and leak down test done since this started? if not it could be illuminating. I can’t think of any other way water would get in the cylinders other than a BHG or maybe cracked cylinder wall…

illuminating??

he used the word “illuminating” here, in the sense that it would be informative, insightful, or allow you to gain useful information.

My 2 cents -

That much smoke obviously means a lot of fluid is burning. As Dave brought out, white smoke 99% of the time means water. The only way water can really enter the combustion chamber, is through a blown head gasket. You might want to check your spark plugs, and see if they’re fowled up. Different colors on your spark plug tips, can diagnose many different things.

HTH

open up your oil cap and radiator cap. if either is bubbly or have oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil, its a blown HG. There really isn’t any other way water can enter the combustion chamber except through the HG (or something REALLY serious.)

and by -REALLY- serious, i think Formz means something along the lines of cracked sleaves. =)

correct!

Good call

How hard is it to replace a blown HG? I know that’s my problem because of the way my old oil looked when I changed it yesterday.

it’s a pretty long process… u seperate the head from the block and replace the gasket between there… so u gotta get the exhaust manifold off and the timing belt and all the hoses that are connected to the head and intake manifold…

Is there anything in Teg Tips that tells how to do this.

you don’t have a factory repair manual? I wouldn’t change the HG without it if I were you…
