i recently bought a block and thought i’d throw my never selling turbonetics kit on there. i guess i miscalculated the compression ratio before i bought it… oops. i thought i was gonna come close to 10:1 on a b16 head but after talking to more knowledgeable members, it seems as it will be doing 11:1ish. i wasn’t planning on going crazy on boost… just enough to give me extra passing power and a little more torque.
the block has arp head, main, and rod bolts. the head will have a set of b18c gsr cams if that matters. i currently have a socketed p72 that i could get tuned for this application and my full turbonetics kit http://g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154459
if you guys give me the green light, i’ll go ahead and keep it!
btw, i would rather keep the block since it will help me legalize my car in Kalifornia!
you can boost it and make good power but its all going to come down to the tune/tuner i would just use a lower comp head gasket
also remember that the state bar is closed do to are state budget. and if that b17 is a 49 state motor good luck with the bar I have one also and it didnt pass. And how things are now passing the state bar is not worth it anymore your better off converting to propane and getting an exception from smog for ever as I plan on doing.
really? that’s interesting. my b17 is a cali block (as far as i know). that and the bar will most likely be opening back up.
so then i should be ok with a thick hedgasket or should i look for stock pistons?
Check the block vin numbers it will tell u if its a 50 or 49 state motor.
just get the gasket and a good tune. what are your power goals?
where do i check the numbers at? just over 200hp. maybe upto 250hp. not anything too crazy.
you should be fine.
to be honest i dont remember how I found out but ill look over the weekend and let you know.
Use E85 or alcohol, you will be happy you did.
i’m trying to have it as a daily driver. sounds like i should just forget about it?
u can boost anything u want
but with higher comp motors you have to be VERY carefull of the Tune
Any Lick of knock and basically your motor will be gone.
basically playing with fire
with that high of a comp
i wouldnt do it tho
He will be fine with a good tune and headgasket. How do you guys think guys who turbo CTR,ITR and ATR motors do it the comp is just as high sometimes even higher. U need a tuner let me know
yes, i would need a local tuner.
i guess we’ll see if my turbo kit sells. if it doesn’t sell by december, then i’ll throw it on. school will be done by then and i will be able to live without a car for a few days. so any particular headgasket you’d like to suggest i get?
I need the specs on the pistons your using? And is the head milled? I can get you a deal on a comtic
the head is stock and the pistons are .25mm oversized ctr pistons. that’s all i know about them.
With a 0.045’" or a 0.050’’ headgasket that should get you to 10.8.1 with the .45’’ thats less then the 11.8 i think it was with the stock 3 layer
