car dies when i let go of the key

ok this has only happened to me once or twice but i wanna solve this before it comes to be a problem. i get in my car, push the clutch, turn over car, let go of the key (let it go to run) the car dies. i did that 2 or 3 times, let it sit for like 10 seconds then it starts up like normal. it was a bit chilly outside if that matters at all

does your battery warning light go on? might be something electrical

battery light comes on like it should when i start it but goes off with the rest of them

if this is happening as soon as you let go of the key then you need an ignition switch. not too hard to replace.

i have a follow up question…

my teg does this as well, it also hesitates to start in wet weather (if its raining i prob wont get it started)

i was planning to replace the starter - but should i replace the ignition switch instead

TIA

as far as the car not starting when its wet, that can be caused by the distributer cap seal being bad. water or moisture gets underneath it and causes bad contacts. next time it rains go outside and take the cap off and look for water. or just simply replace it with the cap and rotor and a new gasket

i had the same problem in wet weather and the cap + rotor did the trick

now it wont even start in the morning time when its cold outside idk what it can be please help

Happened to me, turned out to be my relay - ignition relay or something… Keeps power going to the car and such…

Was also cold as hell, ended up being 100 dollar part, with 200 in labor cus I didn’t know wtf it was…

It’s either electrical issue or clog fuel path. Check your relays, make sure all ground are getting good contact, replace fuel filter, spark plugs, ignition wires. I had a similar problem like this, but mines would die after a good 28-30 seconds of it running. Turns out my fuel path was clogged, and my fuel filter was the main problem.

i doubt it fuel related because it wouldnt even turn over this morning. it fired right up when it warmed up

Yo

Yo change your fuel main relay its a little brown box under your dash
:search:

it wouldnt crank over. not fuel relay not gunna change the relay if its not the relay. i know what its like when the relay goes out

Huh. Are you serious?!

Anyway to check the main relay turn the key to “on”, if the check engine light turns off AND you hear the click at the same time it’ll work. BOTH must happen. Most of these problems sound like the ignition switch though.

Mine did that. Changed the ignition…dirt in the lock cylindar (or it was worn) was causing the key to go back too far and shut the car off.

would the lock solenoid stop my car from cranking over when its cold outside?

i started my car today and it was boggy, sounded kinda like a suby. do you think the dist. is getting wet? also will the ignition switch off a 95 civic coupe work on my car? i have a 92 gs

bump anyone know if it will work off a 95 civic?

can someone help me out, i can get one off a 95 civic for free

nobody knows???
