I highly doubt it would work. It’s around $60 from Honda. Comes with wire harnesses etc.
ok i looked at one online and it said the civic one will work for 94-01 tegs so that sux it wont work. i dont got 60 to drop on it right now im unemployed lol
the funny thing is that I saw this thread when you first started it and I read the title and couldnt understand what you were talking about till about three days ago when I was coming out of the DMV from renewing my tegs registration and it happened to me!!! It was the first time that its happened to me and now I just can’t get the car to stay on!! The key goes back just a little too much after I start it and the car turns off! …worn ignition need a new one…
So I went to the acura dealer today and the guy told me that for a new one it would be $312.48!!! Way too much! I dont have that money! Any one know how to fix this??
So it shuts off as SOON as your let go of the key after it starts?
Might be the spring in the ignition that keeps it in a certain position after starting the car. I remember a member having a problem with keeping hte car running after it started because the key wouldn’t stay in the position to keep it on.
yeah, right after it starts and i let the key go it shuts off…the key just turns back a little too much and yeah…won’t stay in the right position to keep the car on…
how did that member fix his prob??
any help?
he changed up the ignition switch i believe. Im sure if you just take it apart and look for the worn out part you’ll be able to fix it out having to change the ignition and having to rekey the inside or find a new key.
I believe it was the spring inside that was causing it not to stay in place. I could ask him but hes out of the country at the moment. Maybe look up the helms and see if it shows anything about taking it apart or maybe look up something on honda-tech see if anyones have similiar problems.
sounds way better than having to replace the whole ignition and get new keys for the doors and ignition…besides…the switch is only $37 compared to the whole ignition/lock assembly/switch…$312
sorry to thread jack…but what happened to crazyboy…how did you fix it??
havent fixed it yet, im broke and it only happens really early in the morning and i havent been up early lately to see if it still does it
my car started doing almost the same thing toward the end of winter. not ignition switch related, but whenever the car sat all night and i tried to start it, it would fire up and die. i’d have to do that like 3-5 times before it would stay running and that’s with my foot on the gas. it had almost NO power until it let it warm up for at least 5min…
since the weather has warmed up it went away. wish i knew what was causing that!
well you guys are lucky!! … It only happens when its cold or after its been sitting for awhile… Its hot as he’ll here in Cali and after the first time it happened to me it started up after two tries and now it wont stay on at all!!!
Yo change your fuel main relay its a little brown box under your dash
:search:
this guy may be right. as least for you integ-four. do you hear your fuel pump turn on - a buzz for about 2-3 seconds then a click - when you turn the key forward 2 clicks?
does the key even feel loose? wiggle around or anything? just tryin to see whether it’s your MRF or the ingition itself.
my MFR went out before. they tend to work randomly because of the weather and/or vibrations throughout the car. the solder in them cracks and causes the connection to go in and out. my car would start and rev up to like 2k rpm’s like it’s going to stay running, and just die. i would have to keep turning the key back and forth (not starting the car) until i hear the fuel pump turn on. then it would start and stay running.
i thought hot weather typically affected these though. that’s when mine acted up anyway. HTH
im guessing the ignition is really cold and its not locking the key in. if it was the main fuel relay it wouldnt start at all. i have times where it wont even crank over. so i know for a fact its not the mfr
Why would it not start at all due to the MFR? My mfr acts up all the time when it’s over 60 degrees but will eventually start…
If you turn the key and hear the fuel pump and the check engine lights turns off and doesn’t turn on then the main fuel relay is fine.If the car stays running by holding the key and turns off as soon as you let go then, check the electrical portion,go to a local junk yard and pull it off of one, here is a picture of it I have it circled for you it is very easy to take off all you need to do is bring a phillup screwdriver there are two screws right behind the ignition switch and un plug the two plugs that go to the fuse box hope this solves your problem.
first off…brand new 255lph Walbro fuel pump and resoldered MFR that never gave me problems…just had some spare time and heard they got faulty soldering…
the MFR has nothing to do with this problem of the car turning off when you let go of the key…it is strictly ignition switch or ignition lock assembley related…hence the point of the key not staying in position and going back just far enough to turn the car off…
what happened to N Ful FX?? he said that you could buy the wholee assembly for $60??? from Honda??? the dealer told me $312…help me out!..i just spent like $800 fixing my teg and don’t got another three to spend on new door locks and ignition assembly…

well i don’t think that its the electrical portion cause it’s not like a contact or something…it’s the key not staying in place…but i think i’ll try the number 9 ignition switch that you have circled seeing how that was only like $40 and the whole thing number 2 was $312
Once upon a bump…
ignition switch
Theres many things that can cause the car not to start, but usually if the ignition switch is the culprit, the car will fire for a second and then die. Once you get it started ,try jiggling the key,it will probably die,you
ve found the problem. I drove mine to the dealer holding the key in position so it wouldn`t die,fun stuff.Main relays, coil, distributer can all cause no-start problems.
definately the ignition switch. i have two for sale (check for sale forum). mine did the same thing yours is doing.
for an auto???..how much you asking shipped to 93552?..does it come with a real key or just a cut one??..
