The wing will mimic the original piece. It will not include the actual hardware that Colin mentioned.
so the whole thing will be 370 shipped correct.
Yes, correct. This was the shipping estimate that JDP provided. I’m sure it could be more, less or free pickup.
Now I absolutely love the Hiro wings, and I did not have a chance to buy 1 out the 10 made from the last batch from JDP because they were $600+ after shipping. However, they should stay exclusive so that everyone and their mother isnt running around with one on their DA, and may or may not even know the history behind the wing itself lol. I have a few questions. How would JDP be making this next set of 10 spoilers at almost half the price of the last batch? Are they making these thinner? Lower grade carbon fiber? Less coats of clear. It just sounds unusual to me because thats a major price drop. Quality isnt cheap, if time is taken to make something right/genuine. Also, will you be making the mounting hardware to go along with these? From what I remember, JDP agreed to do a limited run of 10 on these, so now they are going back on their word? How can we trust them to make the same quality wing as the last, ship it safely, and only make another 10 more (lol) if they cant keep their word. Please explain. Also why is their website no longer working??
Thanks

Thanks Drew! Appreciate the good words.
I will try to clarify. As far as the cost, it is my understanding the last run was contracted, purchased and resold. I offered to buy the lot of ten from JDP to resell and they refused. He wanted to keep the price point in his control as I imagine the last batch was an extremely overinflated price. The quality will be the same. I am not making any money off of the transactions. I simply am persistent about the parts that I want and I want a CF Hiro Style Wing from JDP for my DA. I inquired about getting one produced and he was only willing to do it only if he could do 10.
The short answer is that if no one ever asks him to do this again, it could in fact be the last run. However, none of us have any control over that.
Thanks for clearing that up Jon. I had been wondering about the price difference as well but had guessed it was just the other guy marking them up. Not sure what that guy’s deal was, especially since in the end he preferred to simply not sell them opposed to lower the price. Now it’s pretty clear he was marking them up quite a bit.
So, just to confirm, this would be everyone purchasing directly from JDP, you are just organizing. And the wings will NOT come with hardware, but the original style of hardware is how they will need to be mounted?
this original stle hardware were talking about is the “clamp” hardware that was mentioned or are we going to have to come up with our own mounting solutions?
1st Batch of CF JDP Hiro Replica Wings(mold from Pancake): 10? Wings
2nd Batch of CF JDP Hiro Replica Wings(Mold from pancake??): 10 Wings
Thats a lot of hiro style wings. You do the math. One thing for sure is there is a way to tell the difference between real vs pancake vs g2ic group buy vs the cf reps. So thats good. But seeing how there are more wings out there it will increase the chances of some kid getting one and making 10 MORE or even 50 MORE just so he can resell and make tons of cash$$ of these because of the high demand of the wings. i get messages every day of people asking if i still have my pancake hiro wings for sale. So i know what the demand is for them. I just simply dont wana see every one on the block to have a hiro style wing, because the rarity of them will drop down significantly. Especially for those who own an authentic Hiro wing, i cant imagine what they feel about seeing more wings being produced.
my thing about it is people that buy the wing then put it on janky cars that look like they have been maintained by a 5th grader. one thing about the price that i DO like is how it keeps it in the hands of those that will actually make use of it. anyone with any real priorities wouldnt spend 600+ on a wing before making sure their car is in tip top shape. that would just be dumb on so many levels.
from what i can tell, between the authentic and replicas and replicas of replicas, the number of the wings is still pretty low for how many DA owners are out there. i think this will make the wing go from uicorn to centaur…
Thank you for clarifying jdecks this is starting to sound awesome the good thing, as mentioned, is you will be able to tell the difference between the versions that have been made. Now we just need to figure out how to ship them safely and how to make the mounting clamps

I understand your thoughts and I agree with this. However, I do not see that making another ten for people who actually appreciate the original Hiro wing will cause an issue or make or break the situation. In fact to your point it is a traceable, identifiable, CF alternative. This is actually why I love the DA community, there is so much pride and passion directed at something as simple as the history of a particular part. IMO The window for Mass producing the wing has ended. Relative to DA’s one might think that it would be lucrative, but it would be a tough sell compared to parts for EVO’s, WRX’s, BRZ’s etc. If these did turn up on ebay, I will be the first to raise a pitch fork with you.
My wing was used and destroyed in the process to make the original mold used by slasher. I didn’t know the mold would be reused. Count 1 less pancake in the world. I applaud you guys for going out there and getting these made, but at the same time lament the fact that these are becoming dime a dozen.
No problem. As for the mounting hardware, I am still working with JDP but they aren’t included because no one knows where to get them. I am confident that I can figure out a way to mount it but I will keep everyone updated. Yes, the deposit goes directly to JDP and I am just organizing. Once we have ten people I will email everyone and ask that the deposit is made via PayPal to JDP. Lead time is 3 weeks to make the mold and then 2 to 3 units each week. Orders will fulfilled based on the order in which deposits are received.
Deceptakhan - Is it not the same mold. Is is a new one from a different customer.
Pretty sure this was 10 exactly. It was my friend who had these made because he had a Hiro and wanted spares for his race car.
Hiro Replicas from Group Buy G2ic. That no one remembers*(Mold from Pancake): 15 wings made!http://forums.g2ic.com/showthread.php?179984-Rare-Item-Hiro-Wing-Replica-Groupbuy
Maybe you know more about this “group buy” than me. But I’m pretty sure this production run never happened. There was all talk in the thread but no sales or photos or even talk of it actually going into production. I think this conversation was a precursor to the 1st batch of JDP replicas.
I understand your concerns, and I am somewhat in agreement. However if you’re smart you’ll realize that the high price these wings are fetching right now is largely in part to the current demand. For whatever reason they are very very popular right now. I think this is because the current trend is to put as much bullshit on your car as humanly possible (wings, lips, visors, tow hooks…). As that trend changes the demand for these wings will change as well. 10yrs ago there was no demand and you could pick one up cheap if you could find one because there were no bidding wars.

I’ll contact you directly but I can probably lend a hand.
The old JDP hiro thread is no longer there so I’m guessing it got deleted and it had pictures of the mounting clips. Maybe Dustin can hook us up with some pictures
underside of the pancake wing… that mounting looks like it would use the oem holes. if this jdp one did the same then it would make things wayyyy easy…
Not sure why we need to continue to repeat the same thing but this wing does not use the original mounting holes. To do that you’d need to do something creative and custom but that seems like a huge waste of time since there is already an existing mounting bracket strategy.
Yes, the old threads have been deleted.
I’m going to discuss the hardware with Jon, I think I have the info he needs to proceed but want to discuss it with him. I don’t think that anyone should worry about the hardware being available, no one will get stuck with a wing and no way to mount it. But you should plan for some sort of additional cost - this was the same situation as with the previous run of JDP Hiro replicas.
regardless, i was going to take the thing to the body shop to be installed anyway. carbon is cool and all but not on that large of a part. it will be painted…
