Changed the Spark Plugs, and now Car wont Start

I decided to change the spark plugs because they were old. And now my car wont start.

  1. Changed old plugs to NGK Iridiums.
  2. Went to start the car, but all it was doing was cranking, so I checked the firing order, it was good.
  3. Found out later that the starter was weak.
  4. Got a new starter.
  5. Installed the new starter and start the car.
  6. Still wouldn’t start.

Here’s what I have and what I already checked.

  • New plugs and wires
  • New distributor
  • Working starter
  • Correct firing order
  • Checked to see if there were any sparks to the cylinders and yes to all
  • Fuel is good
  • Battery is newish

I can’t figure out the problem. I need help. All it’s doing is craking, but it won’t start.

check the ground on the starter, and all other ground wires. check all fuses, starter relay, and main relay

X2 on grounds, maybe you knocked off the one from Valve Cover to chasis

blown a fuse?

check if the dizzys good

The dizzzzy is new. I have to go back and check my grounds. Where is the main relay located? I thought it was under the steering wheel or something like that, but I can’t find it.

Wow I’m having the same problem

Seeing as how the act of changing out the spark plugs has resulted in the car not starting, you could try just putting the old spark plugs back in or get some brand new NGK standard plugs. I’ve always heard people say Honda engines run best on just the standard (plain style) NGK spark plugs as specified on the under-hood label.

yeah, i was thinking about putting the old ones back, but i heard they had to go back in the same cylinder they came out of, and I didn’t mark them. Sweet, im not the only one having this issue. now, my starter that i just got, got weak

no they dont have to go back in to the same cylinder ur just doing it for a test

I don’t understand what you mean when you write that your starter is “weak.” If you mean that the starter is cranking the engine over slowly, then that would suggest your battery is weak.

Also, re: the spark plugs. Did you by any chance put a bunch of oil or grease on the threads of the new ones? If so, that could conceivably cause problems starting the car since it could interfer with the spark plugs being properly grounded so electricity can travel through the outer electrode. It’s recommended to use a slight amount of anti-seize compound on the threads (it has a silverish look to it and conducts electricity so it’s okay to use).

My problem was that the belt tensioner broke & timing skipped 3 teeth.

the starter is dead. It wouldn’t crank, so i went to check at autozone, and they said i would have to get a new on.

I didn’t put any oil or grease on the threads, but after i took out the spark plugs to check if there were any sparks, it did have a little bit of oil on it.

Too much oil in cylinder . Are the wires making good contact with the plugs??

The oil on the dipstick is right in the middle, and the spark plug wires are nice in tight. I’ll wait for a new starter and work on it again.

Check the gap on the new plugs, and make sure you have spark.

kinda did that first, after it didn’t start

Try again using old plugs and wires. You said battery is newish? How new? Try using a different battery if you can, like a jump start or something. Check cable ends on the battery. Loose ends could cause problems.

I’m just waiting for my starter to get here. And then I’ll try all of the things if it still doesn’t start. The battery is a year old, and I had it test a couple weeks back. Thanks for the help bro.

okay, so I got my starter and put it in. Now it won’t even make a noise. I’ll work on it again when I’m free. I’ll be sure to check all the things listed.
