So, this is what i did for christmas eve.
pulled out the b18a 226k original miles with rod knock and replacing it with a jdm b18b, virgin engine. came off an automatic vehical, so im pretty sure it wasnt abused, avg. 40-50k miles.
picked it up with the headers for $730
ill be done with this swap in about a week. work schedule got me stumped, so i can only work on it a few times out of the week.
although, all i need to do is swap manifolds, put my harness on, and some other small things. Then it will be ready for install.
somewhat clean
out with the old, my hands are blaaaack! lol, gloves fail.
big thanks to my friend Frankie for assisting me with this swap.
floating! o.o
old b18a, dirty and knocking!
the jdm b18b.
this saturday, im going to pick up the intake manifold gasket, spark plugs, and some other stuff.
ill have updated pics as i progress with this swap.
thanks for looking!
You should of put the stock header on, that type of header isn’t going to go well with a non vtec setup. Plus, being in California you’re crazy not to use a stock header! Asking for trouble. Since, you have the motor out make sure all your mounts are good and well. I would also take the time to check your steering rack as far as the boots on it and the inner and outer tie rods, and lower ball joint on the spindles. Good luck with the swap!
And, you’re going to have to probably cut up your cross member for that header. 4-1 headers are a pain for DA’s so be ready for that, You should go get a DC header if you want some type of header being in California.
i just want everything to be as close to stock as possible to my b18a.
Plus there are some missing vaccum lines for the p75(map sensor, etc.)
so im going to just stick to the usdm manifold. its going to be a daily driven engine, so i dont mind too much.
Only reason i got the headers is because it was only 80 bucks and i want to give it a try, never had headers before on any of my cars.
Im going to paint it black and make a heatshield for it.
But before i even get to use it, i have to get a new test pipe made because of the 2.5" collector. So im going to be using the stock headers/downpipe when the engine goes back in.
There’s nothing wrong with having an ITR header. It’s the fact that it needs to look totally stock or else you will have a problem. Also, having to modify the cross member. You can pass smog with aftermarket cats as long as it the correct one that are made to pass smog (Magnaflow, Random, etc). The exhaust does not matter with smog, so that’s irrelevant.
