Thanks to Essence and SmokInteg for their work on this. On the top is my car with the stock 91 Tails, and below is the “cleared” 90 Tails. I’ve been told that all that was done to these was sand down the pink strips. Notice that it isn’t clear, but more like a “frosted” look.
IMO Anything looks better than the pink lines, except the amber lenses (Heheheh sorry 92-93 teggers!) Post your thoughts.
From Essence’s previous post:
“All you do once you pry the lenses apart is take the plastic piece that has the pink stripes on it, sand it down using a lighter grit sandpaper (it will go red, then black, then white as you sand down the layers), and finally use a little polishing compound to get rid of any scratches. Place it back into the light and put the lense and plastic housing back together.”
Blizzard recently posted a Teg Tip on how to clear the 92-93 Tails, so we 90-91 Teg owners can probably use this operation, but instead of removing the amber, we’ll just be sanding the stuff down as said above. I have not read this Teg Tip fully though so let me know if I’m wrong.
i’ve been waitin for someone to sand those suckers off, got any close up pics neil? I’d like to see how clear they are in relation to cleared 92-93’s, cause all the faceting is different.
Originally posted by N FUL FX Yeah they look nice. Ours just can’t be clear, it’ll be frosted. Hehe
how much time did you spend polishing them neil? do you think with some more time, finer sand paper and a lot of polishing they can be made clearer… not perfectly clear becaus i know they are faceted… but at least not so hazy.
or is the haze that i’m seeing just in my mind (or from the pics). Cause i know when i pulled the piece out of my 90-91 tail it was a lot clearer looking than that.
It took us a few hours, like 2 - 3. Pretty easy. Sand down as fine as you want to the clarity that you want to go to, then rubbing compound, then polishing compound… looks better that 92-93 tails cleared IMHO
oh yeah, and it really helps if you have someone helping you… it’s easier to pry them apart with two people. You may have to put them back in the oven once you get them half way apart, to heat them up again. And put them in the oven for a while before you goop 'em up and put 'em back together!
And if you’re using a screwdriver to pry them apart, put a towel over the flathead so that it doesn’t dent up the plastic too much (it will still make small dents, but a lot better than without the towel).
Originally posted by N FUL FX I didn’t do this man. I just uploaded the pics that were sent to me by the people who DID do it.
aha, that makes so much sense now. i was wondering why the badging on the two cars was different… i figured maybe just old vs new pics, but now i get it.
It looks like that piece with the pink stripes was pulled off completely apart from the rest of the light. If it’s just a piece that fits on the inside, can’t you just leave it out?
Drakos: if you’re serious, yes Essence and I could probably do this and we can probably send you a working but really buggered up set as a spare, but seriously, if you just follow the steps here it’s pretty easy to do it yourself…
I just ruined my lights. I put them in the oven for 3 min. exactly at 200 degrees … everything was fine first time… the second time I took them out to pry … I noticed that where the plastic curves around the gills (which I took out) is bent out.
I guess I could try sticking it back into the oven and try molding it back by hand… not looking good though.

could you please explain the process of removing the lenses a little more thoroughly- as in which steps to do and in which order you did them in. Is using the flathead an alternative to using the oven/heat gun method or do you do both? Do you need to put it in the over or I assume a heat gun will suffice  are there certain places in the lenses to start to pry it and then work your way out from there?
