everyone has this problem. its a tricky little bastard. It takes quite a lot to break it… and thats good because it takes a bit of muscle to get it out.
push the tray to the side, then try and pull one side outwards towards you. Just keep pulling… it’ll come out.
mine just had a metal lip on it when you pulled it out far enough you push that down and kinda slant it and pull. It was easy. Sounds like this might be a diff type though…good luck
yeah I broke mine 2 days ago pulling it out. I think I wasn’t pushing it to one side enough. Be carefull. It is however easer to install with one of the plastic tabs broken off

you’re thinking of the ash tray. he’s talking about the coin holder in the panel under the gauges… down by your left knee
doesn’t work as well with the plastic tab broken off. Actually kinda sux when the tab is broken off.
Mine broke off even when I was pulling it to the side. When one of the tabs are broken it will not stay in. I left it off for years.
I’m having the same prob too, and I just know that if i muscle it out its gonna break. Helms makes it seem sooo simple too. Anyone have any ideas on other ways to get it out?
I reallly need it out, to get the panel off.
broke mines too. if i was into show id put a guage there, but since im not, more weight that i saved. hahah
I have already broken both of plastic ends off the coin tray
Luckily I have super glue!
They made it so brittle that I don’t think it was meant to come off without breaking the ends.
Anyways, be very careful, get one end out first, and the other end will fall right out.
Try using a screwdriver and pry one side out (to get the plastic tab out of the hole).
Another more difficult or almost impossible way would be to get under the panel somehow and push the tab out! hehe

thats odd. i’ve pulled mine out numerous times without any problems. It comes out super easy for me, and the tabs haven’t broken. I’m telling you, the trick is push it as far as you can to one side, then pull out the other end.
i spent a long time trying to get that sucker out too. it just doesnt wanna come out. good one from the honda engineers!

i had a coin stuck behind my tray. i did get it out, wasnt too bad-i was waiting for a ‘crack’. now i know how easy it is to remove though
Mine was broken when I bought the car
so i cut off the remaining tab and glued a piece of perspex either side. then removing the lower dash piece it fits in i put a small nut and bolt through either side…it’ll never break again
mine comes off no problem, just do it on a hot day you have a good chance of not breaking it
seems like no one seem to know this. but on the coin tray there is a tab that u can see. just use a flat head screw driver and slip it in there and push the tab in and the tray just slips out.
i have no clue what you guys are talking about…i pull mine out all the time. It slides right out when i push down on the big metal thing and then pull…maybe its different on 90 tegs? oh well
louie and integra style, i think you’re both thinking of the ashtray.
The coin tray he speaks of is above your left knee below the steering wheel.
i’m not talkng about the ashtray. they ashtray is too big and stuffed with my cig butts and my coin tray is stuffed with quarters is hard to mistaken. yeah its right under the left knee. on the left side of the coint tray theres a plastic tab u can see with a littletip they holds it in place like a toilet paper holder. just push it in a pull out.
Ohhhh, i thought hat was the business card holder since it is the exact same size…yah, one of my tabs was broken when i got it too…so i just screwed a small screw where the tab was and then cut the screw head off and whala, new metal tab. I put it back on and it fit perfectly and worked perfectly…i tried to take it back off some months later and crack…the screw cracked more of the platic around it…unrepairable.
