Component speakers in the front

okay guys, I"m getting a pioneer DEH P7300 head unit, no amps at the moment but I want a good component speakers. I was thinking the Cerwin Vega HED-1602 (based on a recomnedation by fellow G2IC member)
Anyhow, if I get a component speaker, where do I fix the tweeter in our G2s??? how about the wire, where do I pass it? Any suggestions or pictures??

i’ve got mtx thunder 6000 t6.5 5.25" components in the front (and am selling the 6.5" if you’re interested ;)). i used the stock wiring in the door for the woofer, and mounted them like so (crossovers were only mounted that way temporarily with velcro, they’ve since been affixed permanently with screws):

hey, that is a nice job, but if you ask me, I would want to have the tweeter somewhere higher… say on the corner of the dash board or something.

Q) the cross over works like this? one input, two outputs. Input from amp for normal speakers, output, one for tweeter and one for woofer/midrange. Am I correct???

Q2) do I need a DIN kit for fit the pioneer cd Reciever?

Q3) what is the use of those sound damping kits for the speakers (a sound damping sheet you install on the metal before you screw the speakers) are they any good??

Thanks for the pic! Inspiring I must add!

I must say, i was amazed with the staging i was able to created from having the tweeter down there. Sounds GREAT!

yup.

most likely. i’m not too familiar with pioneers, but if it’s like most other single-din units then you’ll need a mounting kit. they go for about 15 bucks or so.

i’m assuming you mean things like dynamat. if you’re getting it just to go behind the speaker, save your money. there are other brands out there, such as mcmaster carr ‘mastic’ that is the same material and everything, the only difference is it’s missing the blue ‘dynamat’ logo. it’s about half the price. i currently have my trunk lined in mastic, and it works wonders. it really (IMHO) wouldn’t be worth it to get just a speaker kit, if you’re going to use it might as well get a full door kit or hell just lift out the carpet and do the whole car. THAT will give you a big difference in noise suppression (road noise that is). the dynamat door kits are fine, work great and are relatively inexpensive (as opposed to doing the whole car in dynamat). i think they go for about 60 bucks each at best buy.

I have the MB Quart RSB 218 (MusicComp) Component Set. Although expensive, I love the sound and the crossovers are amazing. If you look at this picture below, you’ll see I mounted my tweeter in the “typical” location. Although many don’t like them there, I love my setup and all that hear it do to. I also ran wires through the stock wiring harness in the door. There’s a large area in the plug where there are no pins, so I drilled a hole in the plug large enough to allow both the tweeter and midrange speaker wires to pass though. It was tough, especially getting the wires through the “rubber boot” between the door and the door jamb…but it looks great. Let me know if you have any questions.

hey man, ur tweeters look great. The only thing is that if I fix them there, then I can’t remove them in the future. It is a difficult call!!! 'cause I would like to take my sound system with me when I switch to another car in the future!!! However, I love your setup.

So u placed the cross over in the area under the tape recorder. Then u must have used one of the original wires for the midrange/wofer and had to wire an additional one for the tweeter. Isn’t there a space to place the cross over insid the door? This way no wiring is required.

zoomintegra, thanks for the advice… I think I’ll skip sound insulation for the moment…

bleh the vegas suck. i forget what series but they were 299. i demo’d them with dei studios and the mbq rs series. couldnt tell a difference between the dei or mbq. the vegas suprised me. they blew monkey glut. i thought they’d at least compare to rf fanatics or something.

the dei was 150 and mbq 250 or 299 i forget. then the mbq q series are a lot more of course.

so my advice, dei, idq, or cdt. affordable, nice, better than what your swap meet or typical bestbuy/circuit city etc has to offer.

ya mastic=good. dynamat=RAPE. although the mastic mcmaster provides isnt like dynamat anymore, its more of a velvet kind of feel which looks better, but it cracks easier and doesnt conform even under lots of heat. its not like rubber asphault anymore. order at least 2 sheets. i htink i used about half for the trunk lid. i have like 3 more sheets to play with. 1$/sqft, 6 or 7 shipping to socal. good company. good luck

I have a new Pioneer…not as good as urs, but i installed without a DIN kit. It fit in there perfectly. The damn stock wiring was kinda a beeatch though. The guy who had the car before me had a shitty sony with a 27W max per channel amp. He used it to power all 4 speakers. Its funny that my head unit has more power than his amp did.
Oh, by the way, Pioneer definately kicks ass lately. I picked it over a comparable RF head unit.

ya pioneer is good. however my top choice for 2001-2002 would be without a doubt the jvc kd-sh99 mp3 player. works flawlessly (for me) as an mp3 player and even has the clout for regular pressed cds. can be had for ~250 or less on yahoo shopping. bestbuy etc wont carry it for a while but i guarantee you when they do itll be a top seller. they’re selling like hotcakes online and at local shops.

just my plug, er, two cents =P

if you’re going to run components off your pioneer deck, the best $ for $ speakers to get are infinity 605cs components at $199/pr retail. you can get quarts and yes they’re better, but you’ll only notice a huge improvement in sq when you put an amp on them. mb quart reference series components have a power handling of 90-170 watts, of which no deck is going to put out. you won’t get what you paid for outta components with that power handling unless you put a descent size amp on them. the 605cs infinitys have an rms of 75 watts- still not what a deck will put out, but closer than 90-170. the 605’s also have a frequency responce from 77-20k cycles- which means they’ll kick on where subs leave off- they’ve got the best midbass response- the next best set $ for $ are the jl audio xr650csi at $379.99/pair- now on deck power you’ll hear a minimal diff is sq between the jl’s and the infinity’s. put an amp on them and that’s a diff story. any other ?'s lemme know. there are some cases with car talk where i am timid at giving advice. this is not one of them- i know my stuff - hope this doesn’t sound like bragging- i’m just confident about car audio

I have Pioneer DEH-P900R single DIN and it fits fine… only problem with mine is too many wires being crushed in the back…
I have that problem cause i used an adapter to connect to the stock adapter. so i have a lot of wires that are crimped together back there. I moved my tray to the top and stereo to the bottom because the wires were starting to strip from the metal behind the head unit.

gen2ls/vtec:
Thanks for the advice, I did check out the infinity 605cs and they appeal to me very very much however, I will only be using my deck power which is 22W RMS/ 50W MOSFET peak. Now, the recomended operating watts for the infinity speakers is much higher than the VEGA. wouldn’t that have a negative effect on the quality of my sound system???
I have no plans for additional amps anywhere in the future (lacking funds of course).

Please give me your honest openion because I’m very close to buying one of the two… thanks…

gen2ls/vtec, ur not around??

i demo the 605cs’s on deck power all the time and they sound great compared to anything else component wise that we sell. but i can’t give you my opinion on the vegas b/c i don’t sell them. i know the infinity’s sound good though.

i really advise you to checkout dei, idq, cdt. like i said, the dei studios are <150 and sound the same as the mbq dsc series. and you know most everyone likes mbq.
personally i wouldnt even think of infinity. id surely checkout bostons before i considered anything they carry at bestbuy/circuit city etc

XDEep, thanks for the advise, I checked DEI and they are double the price of the infinity. I also searched for mbq or idt but found nothing (in www.shopping.yahoo.com) so I’m not sure about the abbreviation.

the infinity 605cs are for sale @111 US$ which is already over budget (not to mention shipping cost). Same goes for the CDT, the cheapest online is like 180 US$

I guess I have to make due with the infinity… I mean it is taking me ages to make a dicision here… no two seem to agree on an openion so I guess non of these speakers has such a strong edge over the others to win everyone’s heart!!

Oh, and a plus to the infinity is this i-mount thing… gen2ls/vtec, do you think I can fit them behind my driver side mirror without any aditional modifications? Like glue them or something???

Hey!
Email me what kinda speakers your looking for. I sure I can get them for cheaper than 180…well maybe. Email and here is the site that I’m making for our cars

http://www.geocities.com/buzzvoltz/stereo/master.htm

I haven’t uploaded the components section yet, but am still working on it. Thanks!

The tweeter will fits fine behind the mirrors if your not flush mounting them. I also would have to vouch for the infinity’s if you can find them for a good price, thats what im runing in my car right now. One of the best sound comp. sets for under 200 bones imo.

i used to have mine down by the kicks. sounds much better behind the mirrors. just need to take off that triangle piece and screw
