I changed thermostat, radiator, lower and uper rad hose and rad cap. ok. I drive a week very good. Today i go on the highway and when im driving normally the temp guage stays normal but once I floor it and drive like that for a while the tem guage goes hot or close to it, than when I stop a bit and just at idle with the car still on it starts to go back to normal.
So I open hood today bleed the coolant again turn heater on rad cap off wait for almost 30 min. and i notice my fan doesn’t come on and im sure it used to come on, on my old radiator. So I check all the connectors and its good and the two fuses under the dash and all good.
feel the lower hose and see if it gets to about the same temp as the upper hose… when it does, check your temp gauge to see if your overheating…you might still have air in your system
if it gets hot while driving hard, and cools down while idling, its not a rad fan issue. your car would overheat while idling if that were the case. air pockets might be the problem. first use the bleeder screw (follow the upper rad hose) to bleed while the car is running. then take the rad cap off and run the car and refill with coolant to keep the level at the bottom of the filler neck.
however, it seems to me like if you drive the car hard and it starts to overheat, i would say maybe look at replacing your water pump. if the bearings are going bad, its possible that the pump is not moving your coolant through your engine fast enough
it can’t be the water pump. i am positive its the fans cuz they have to turn on when the coolant temp goes over 190 or somethin and thats usually the case.
anyways yesterday when i bled the coolant the fan didn’t comeon even once i just don’t know wut to replace so the fan would turn on.
I think you can trick the system by jumper-ing the plug to the coolant temp sensor to each other and see if your fan cuts on. you won’t need the car on to do this, just the ignition to on to see if the fan works, if not, it will have something to do with the relay or fan, I found on my problem with the cooling fan that I was missing a ground that went to the relay and it never worked.
i think maybe i fUCK#D something up when puttin the new rad in, cuz the fan used to work before. im just gonna go to my shop and put it on a hoist.
anyways the reason that i think it is the fan its cuz when i drive hard for a long period of time and the temp guage goes hot thats when the two fans had to kick in and cool down the rad and if they don’t comeon the temp guage would just go high. mind you yesterday was a pretty hot day in a while and i had been driving the car straight for more than an hour with no fan kickin in. i’ll prolly just replace the relay.
im so fuckin pissed wasted all day on my fuckin car. the coolant was leaking had to take the whole radiator back out to tighten the lower clamp in -14 weather at my house.
ANYWAYS I took a wire and connected straight to the rad fan and it worked so now i HAVE no idea what i gotta change? the rad switch or the relay? HELP ME OUT PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I don’t have my book with me right now, but the easiest way to find out what’s going on is to check the wires to the relay behind the pass. headlight. other than that go to the sensor where your lower coolant hose connects to on the engine and disconnect the plug( it has 2 wires to it) jumper those and turn the ignition key to II and it should route power directly to the fan relay and that way you can check that the relay is getting power.
I’ll have to check my book to see what wire colors go to the relay and what goes to the fan. make sure you have a good ground( always). anybody else got the wire colors for the relay? it’s going to be awhile before I get to mine, I’m moving, and it’s packed up.

hey man can you be more specific on that or if anyone has picture of where this sensor might be.
on the same housing where you installed the thermostat, you have a sensor that have 2 wires attached to it. it’s the only one that is there, I’m sorry but I don’t have a picture. I hope that helps
i think that might be the problem!!! i gotta wait till tomow to check it out. so wut do i gotta do with taht? and could that be teh reason y the fan don’t come on?
I had the sameproblem a while back, I just said screw the relays and switches.
I wired the Ac fan to my parking lights. So, whenever I drive hard, or have long trips, I just flick on my lights. No problems.
Pull the connector at the switch at your thermastat housing and use a paper clip or short wire to jump the connector. When your ignition switch is turned on, the fans should come on. If it doesn’t, then it isn’t the switch, but a relay or a short in the wiring.
Now, when you are on the hwy, there is plenty of air going thru the radiator, so you shouldn’t be overheating. If it is, then you most likely have a slow leak bleeding off enough coolant to cause the overheating. Other reasons can be a ‘stuck closed’ thermostat, bad water pump, bad temp sensor sending the wrong temp to the guage, or a failed clogged radiator, or an improperly bleed system. I bet you have a small leak causing your level to go too low.
:iagree: Even when my fans didn’t come on, I never had no problems like he did.
wdtiger Intersting solution, that one. I just hope you don’t draw too much current and pop a fuse while you’re driving at night.
Nope, I never had a problem. It’s been about 2 yrs now. I only wired up my AC fan, because that’s the smaller one outta the 2 fans.
There’s 2 wires, black one was just grounded to frame, and other one went to my parking lights.
My friend wired his up to his remote wire from his radio.
MOTHER #*$(&CKER. i have to take out my rad cuz there is a huge leak in it. its funny i bought it 2 weeks ago brand new modine one. and now today it’s leaking. im gonna go back to the store and return the damn shitty rad. and prolly tell them i want money for the labour of it being remvoed 2 times. tahn im gonna go to the dealer and get one.
NO MORE AFTERMARKET PARTS FOR ME.
after the leak is all good im gonnna start working on the damn fan. Im starting to hate my car but i’ll know i will love it again once everything is fixed
aight the leak is all good. just when its at idle it starts overheating sometimes. THE fan is good works when u connect it straight to battery. so anyone know what i should replace switch or relay? please tell me ASAP cuz i really need to do this.
