Hey everyone. I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to go with this. I got a 91 integra ls turbo, stock b18a, t3/t4 .57 trim, dsm 450’s, and tuning with turboedit most likely going to be running at 8-10 psi.
(THIS REFERS TO THE DOWNPIPE/EXHAUST!!)
My question is that will crush piping at about 2.5" be a significant downfall in hp/tq? Not really to worried about how much power i have, just trying to get my exhaust put together and i’ve not found anywhere local with a mandrel bender so planning to just go to autozone/advance to pick up some 2.5"(or bigger) 90* pipes and weld them on my flange, then use that flex exhaust pipe to connect it to the catalytic. I know there are many flaws in this set-up but not really concerned about the power/back pressure(unless it going to affect the turbo life), just trying to get my car back on the streets with very little
What would happen if i used 2" mandrel bent pipes? I heard that would be equivelant to using 2.25" or 2.5" crushed bent pipes?
Would like to know what everyone thinks. I live in aurora, illinois. If anyone knows of any place that decent priced mandrel bends are sold, please let me know. Thanks
just order some from here, I did, and am completely satisfied. HTH

hey thanks for the link. website has a lot cheaper prices than i’ve seen. BUT!
the reason i ask is that i wanted to do it a.s.a.p. because the weather out here in chicago is supposed to be really good(well better than it has been) so i really wanted to get this done.
Plus, im not really down for waiting for the products to arrive. Would rather get it done now.
But thanks again for the link.
still kinda wondering if theres any significance to the crushed and mandrel exhaust besides flow and back pressure
if anyone has any information please post!
thanks
if it helps your decison at all, it only took 1 and a half days to get to me after I ordered it. it was really quick. But I do think there is a pretty big difference in using crush and mandrel, and that is why almost everyone uses mandrel. also, I am not sure about the turbo life thing, but would assume it could decrease the life since any added stress caused by back pressure would be added to the stress that is already present from normal use. If you could get 3" crush piping, I believe it is equal to 2.5" mandrel, so that would be ideal if all that is available is crush.
I can vouch for this company also…very fast shipping. All they do is piping…so there’s no BS.
ive never seen a crushed downpipe ever. so i probably wouldn’t try it. but if you do make sure its minimum 3".
I’ve seen plenty of crushed pipes.
If you are under 250 whp and are running a 2.5" crush bent DP, you will be fine. Top end might be a touch weaker and it might take slightly longer to spool…but if its the only thing you can get, go for it.
yea i just needed something to quiet the car down and wanted to make sure it wouldnt damage anything on the spot . driving w/o downpipe is annoying so this should do for now. thanks.
also, i went to a couple of diff. auto parts store and i checked their crushed piping and was surprised because the piping i got @ autozone wasn’t as badly crushed i guess i could say. i can see why exhaust flow would be restricted but the piping i got wasnt as bad so maybe it wouldnt be too much of a restriction.
