Cutting out in boost and completely out of ideas!

I have tried everything that I can think of and I am now out of ideas. Here’s a short description of what’s happening. I enter boost, around 4.5K rpm it feels like I hit a brick wall, almost like a charge pipe pops off. Here’s what I’ve tried.

Spark plugs - bcpr6e gapped at .33,.30,.28. None changed anything. I could have swore the Helms said 6 was stock heat range, but the computer at Advanced Auto showed 5. So I went with 1 step colder according to them.
Checked timing and set at 16*
Replaced all vaccum lines.
Tried different locations for wastegate line (connected to Cruise Control port on the back of manifold and off the compressor housing) and map sensor line.
Replaced map sensor.
Tried 3 different basemaps from Xenocron.
I really just have gone over everything I can think of.

Here’s a breakdown of the setup:
JDM B18B
Garrett T3 60trim
ERL manifold
Flamenco-T oil line kit with firewall T
Fast-turbo return line
2.5" open downpipe
450cc DSM Injectors
TiAl 35mm wastegate w/ 6lb spring
Walbro 255 hi press.

This setup worked fine on my B18a1 and the only thing I have changed was to the JDM B18b and a slightly bigger turbo. But the new basemap’s have been accomidated for it.

I’ve tried running the wastegate directly to one of the two nipples on the compressor housing. I plugged the other one. Then I just left both nipples open.
Then I tried running the wastegate into the brake booster line.
I’ve tried running it to the cruise control port by itself as well.
Vaccum line is coming off the side port on the wastegate.
I can’t think of anything else except it being the turbo, but I don’t know how the turbo would affect it like that. I bought it from XDeep and he said it was a fresh rebuild. It didn’t have any shaft play nor is there oil in the charge pipes. Maybe someone out there had the same problem and could chime in. Thanks,
Chris

Hmmm. I am thinkin that maybe it is the Vaccuum connections that are some how wrong. Is the BOV working as it should? I have both the Boost Guage and BOV connetcted to the same line inbetween the FMS and the IM…Also, do you have a check engine light on? Hope you get that issue resolved. Be safe.

Blowoff valve works perfect. I just don’t know what it could be. There are no check engine lights on. Thanks for the help bro,
Chris

have you check your bin? check the rev-limiter where it’s set at?

Rev limiter is at stock setting right now. It doesn’t act like it hits a rev limiter. When it gets to like 4.5K rpms you can feel it stop pulling and start struggling to get through the rest of the rpm band. The needle moves slower. I still don’t know what it is? I may check to see if the rotor in the distributer is good. Would that have any affect on it? Other than that I have not a damn clue.

Sounds like detonation maybe.

When she reaches 4.5 rpmz is there a bad putputtering going on or what? Maybe to much fuel? Just trying to help…

what boost level is it cutting at?

how much psi are you running? and is your fuel pump hard wired???

how are u tuned, sounds like ur feul is cut off, if so, ur jdm b18b needs a re-buid since u are runnin boost into no feul

Well the wideband shows 11’s in boost so I’m not leaning out by anymeans. Anyway, the turbo kit comes off next week and goes up for sale as well as the car. I’m getting an S2K next month. Thanks for the replies though.
Chris

You have ZERO sputtering at all below that? Sounds like it could be an injector problem perhaps or some sort of misfire…a misfire may show up rich or lean on the wideband so it wont be telling you the whole truth of what is going on at that point when it happens.

i kinda had the same problem, are u running uberdata? sorry i didnt read it just what was wrong, but idk what other programs run it but i know i had a boost cut on my old ls turbo setup at 10.8psi and when it hit it the boost just droped off, car just gave up lol, its shitty, does feel like a blown charge pipe to me, but it wasnt, for a long time i thought it was my wg, but it could be your hitting your boost cut?

I have zero sputtering at all before boost. I mean it runs great while in vac. Once I transfer into boost it begans to pull nicely for a second or so, then it just dies. I’m running turboedit and wastegate has a 6lb spring w/ no boost controller.

How much timing retard do you have? Is your distributor set to 16 degrees?

Try increasing your maps by 2-3 degrees and see what happens (keep an eye on your AFRs). Hell…most times I dont retard the timing at all until about 5-6 psi…

Timing was set at 16*…Anyway, I appreciate the help but the kit is being pulled off as we speak. I’m selling everything for the downpayment on an 03’ S2000. Thanks guys,
Chris

Help

It sounds like your not getting proper detination. try replacing distributor cap, wires, and plugs

Well, after taking off my turbo kit to clean it up I noticed that the ERL manifold had 2 nice cracks in it at the wastegate arm. I’m pretty sure that’s may be what it is. Anyway, my best friend order the ERL at the same time as me but never put it on, so I’m going to put that one on to see if it was the problem. Guess it’s time to get in touch w/ 1st state moto. and find out about that waranty.
