differences in turbos

Can anyone point me to a site, or give me info explaining the differences in turbos. I hear about T3/T4, T88, 16G, 18G, etc, but don’t know what any of this means!

Well T25, T28, T3, and T4 turbos are made by Garrett. T25 is the smallest and T4 is the largest. T4/3 are hybrid turbos, it’s half a T3 (hot side usually) and 1/2 a T4 (compressor side). The T4/3 turbos spool faster than a straight T4 but I feel these turbos are too big for most people. What’s the point of running 5psi and only making boost at 5500 RPM? Your redline comes up so quick you shift before fully using the turbo.

I think the T28 would be more fun to drive on most Tegs. Fast spoolup, good low end torque.

TD05-XXB/G, TD06-XXG, T78, T88’s are Mitsubishi turbos.

IHI makes turbos too, Apex-i’s RX series turbos are modified IHI ball bearing turbos. You’ll also see IHI turbos on “16G Killer” kits. I think Mazda and Subaru use IHI turbos OEM.

There are lots of other manufactures like KKK, Toyota, and more.
