DIY Rear Camber fix

Any advice when doing the rear camber as described in the Teg Tips? I am going to be doing it while I am home for Thanksgiving. Any guesses as to the amount of time it should take? Thanks for all the responses guys.

Its really easy to do. just be careful not to cross thread the bolts. For sure buy grade 8 bolts too. Oh, and use a jack to push up everything so you dont have to hold that stuff up and try to get the bolt started at the same time. HTH

are you using a camber kit or washers…im about to do mine sometime soon as well. let me know. late.r

Yup, I was planning on doing that this week too. Anyone guess at how many washers you need for a 3 inch drop?

Grade 8??? What does that mean? I was planning on going to HomeDepot and getting some longer bolts with the same threading, is Grade 8 something I need to look for?

As for how many washers, i put 3 on each bolt when i was dropped 1.8" and there’s still some negative camber. They say the maximum to put is 4 so i guess you should put 4/bolt and see if the camber is acceptable.

Washers.

Shenrie:
What do you mean when you say “grade 8”?

jonsteR:
How much neg. camber do you think you have now, with the 3 washers? I am dropped about 2 or so inches, so I am going to be in a similar situation as you.

Thanks guys

I haven’t had my camber checked in the rear after the washers but like what InstantRamen’s kit says, 1 washer = .5 deg of camber. With that in mind, i have less than -1 degree of camber on both wheels. i think it’s like -.6 and -.9. HTH

get the highest grade bolts and washers you can, typically grade 8—but when i got mine i got metric bolts so the grade was stamped 10.5 —which i’m guessing is equivalent.

grade is basically strength. The higher the number, the stronger the metal.

I’m lowered almost 3" and i’ve got either 4 or 6 washers on each bolt, i just don’t remember right now whether its 4 or 6. And i still have a little negative camber.

It does seem like a lot of spacing. But i’ve been riding on it like this through some pretty bumpy roads, and even some very spirited driving through the twisties for a little under a year with no problems as of yet.

Ya, what Colin said. Grade 8 is the strenght of the bolt. The reason I said this is cause you are moving a point of movement on the cars suspension that holds a lot of weight. There is no reason to skimp here. Bolts are cheap.

Ive got 6 washers on each bolt too. No problems as of yet. Ive had this setup for 2-3 years and done autox and spirited driving almost every weekend since the install.

So if I ask some yuppie at Home Depot for Grade 8 bolts, they’ll know what I’m talking about? cool.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help, and will be sure to keep everyone posted on the install.

i put in 3 washers. as for the jacking thing, i just did one at a time so no need to lift.

also, i noticed that i was able to replace the lower bolt with a longer one from pep boys, but the upper one wouldnt go in. good thing the stock is just long enough to hold it, otherwise i’d use 4 washers. this applied to both sides.

How can I fix my rear camber?

Where do I place the washers to adjust negative camber?

read the teg tips, if i remember correctly there is a picture.

Unscrew the two bolts that hold your upper control arm to the body pull control arm toward you and put washers between control arm and body and bolt it.

has anyone does this with positive results? just wondering.

yes, it works great. I’ve got a 3" drop and fixed my rear camber w/ washers. I’ve got 6 1/8" washers on each bolt, i used the highest grade metric washers and bolts they make to be sure it would be strong. I even used a lathe to shape the bolts just like stock, hehe i know it wasn’t needed, but my dad has a lathe and likes little projects and likes to teach me neat stuff.

I’ve still got a little neg camber, probably a degree or so, but thats better than 3+ deg of neg camber. The washers have been there for nearly a year w/o incidence. Shenrie also has a lot of washers and its worked great for him as well.

personally i think rear camber kits are a waste of $$ unless you are filthy rich. Why pay $100 when you can pay $12.

good luck

How many 6 1/8 washers did you use for each side?

i think you misread that, or maybe i should have typed it like this:

i used six 1/8" washers per bolt. So, thats a total of 24 washers, and the total thickness per side ends up being 3/4"

hope that helps

:stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :D:D … hehe … THAT is some SERIOUS negative camber … lol … sorry man … know you misread … but lol … that was funny!

ps: i am gonna be doing the same thing soon, with a 2.5" drop … you guys think i will need longer bolts?
