DRAG kit vs Full Race kit...

Hey guys,

I am leaning towards boosting my car. I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to two turbo kits. Either a DRAG kit or a Full Race stage 1 kit. Has anyone used either of these? I know the drag kit lets you keep A/C, which is a big plus (I live in the dirty south). The Full Race kit doesn’t have that option but it seems like a better kit. A friend of mine is running the stage 2 650hp Full Race kit on his b16 civic and the thing is nasty. Anyways I’d appreciate any suggestions etc. I like the idea of the Full Race because I could always upgrade it and get a bigger turbo.

imo neither
both are overpriced

thanks for the constructive advice. Anyone else?

i’m with that guy^

You can upgrade any turbo kit, dont let the fact that DRAG dosent sell stages fool you.

Are you comparing a cast manifold to a a tubular ram horn???

I personally hate that the DRAG manifolds wastegate is on one cylinder, and not where all four meet.

Drag:

Blox: (cant think of who they copied design from right now)

Now to the ram horns…
Full-Race:

Spoolin-Performance:

These things are beast, and will get you serious power. What kind of numbers are you looking for? I would consider buying everything seperate, build your own “kit”. Just remember a Full-Race manifold will set you back about $1,000. Wish I was joking… http://www.full-race.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_712_730&products_id=1210&osCsid=c94d2cfdf78a74cb4aa1fb1d43a981d5

check out tdautowerkes, im getting everything custom made from them and its gonna cost less than the full race kit. same quality and real good customer service. talk to damian and tell him i sent you that way www.tdautowerkes.com

I’d rather not buy everything separate, especially when that manifold is 1k. As far as numbers go I’m looking for 250-300 stock and maybe 350-400 on a built engine. The thing I was worried about in buying a drag kit was that the piping or something would end up being a bottleneck and I’d have to go with a completely different kit in order to make the higher power.

I would check out that shop but I’m in Charlotte, NC I’d rather stay local…

The comparison between both kits are pretty much night and day. It all boils down to money vs. performance. Drag kit will alow you to keep the ac but the full-race style kit will easily add 30-50+ hp at the same amount of boost. Me personally…forget about ac and ps, im all about ac. Those that have to have ac will have to settle for something more basic. Now they make tubular style ac compatable kits but there more money.

Drag kit: for those that just want to say" im turbo"
Full-race: for those that want to say" Yo I just beat a vette"

I like the way you put it… I think I might just hold off till I have another car and go full race. My friend’s civic eats vettes

zeroroot: perfect choice. I jsut bought a 92 laser that im putting a new head on. thats going to be my DD since the gas is so crazy. Then Im turning the DA into a streetable drag car. Im going all out. custom headlight for the turbo intake, roll cage and turning the boost up on the stock block. I will probably work on the suspention to or just return it back to stock for the track.

Nice. Yeah suspension would definitely be on my list. Right now I’m rocking tokico blues / tokico springs. If I end up going all out probably traction bars and what not the works. There is a guy in Raleigh that just put some full race traction bars on his DA he posted pictures on another site I’m on.

yeah man i would totally buy a kit. everything fits properly, you could get it all done in a weekend, 1 day install, next day tune, and your done.

imo get the full race.

go full-race! Go big or go home! 250-300hp is the norm nowadays on most boosted cars, and just barely beating someone isn’t that fun anymore, raping them is though IMO!! I’m going to LKQ today to try and find a LS block so I can start building it for boost, and I get b16 heads at my job for $600 so should have a nice setup in 1 year or so when i’m done.

Doing 120Km/h rolling burnouts as you are passing and beating them is even more fun! :D:cool:

your doing it CFT style right Tchleung

Here ya go, a DC5 but you get the point. That would make any random dude driving a zo6 say, SWEET JESUS, WTF IS IN THAT ACURA! Pretty impressive fom the dig, especially since the vette has 295’s on the back at the most the DC5 might have 225’s on the front.
