it seems obvious to me that if the dumptube release the air into the atmosphere there is no backpressure at all. But it you have a bigger exhaust free of restriction, will the flow of the main exhaust stream suck up the gases of the dumptube better than it would do if you just dump it into the atmosphere ? is there any significant increase/decrease in horsepower ?
thank you
I doubt it. The pipe is only like 1.50 -2.00 inches in diameter??
its obvious that the dump tube has no bearing on performance… people use them to route the excess exhaust gasses out of the engine bay so they dont melt stuff or make a mess of their engine bay
I have heard and read that running without a dump tube kills your power significantly. The reason being that the hot air is discharged in the engine bay and the turbo sucks this back in which leads to loss of power and id imagine a possible detonation situation.
There is an article on honda-tech that discusses the dump tube. I think this is it. http://forums.evans-tuning.com/viewtopic.php?t=2874 The article is backed up by dyno results and its proven, that the extra hot air can cut as much as 25-30hp.

this is nice information, unfortunatly i cant gain any whp because mine is already dumping under the pan:bored:
dayme that a great write-up. Ya learn something new everyday.
Im wondering if the pcv system (which take the crankcase gases and reroute them into the turbo inlet) affect power gains (like the dumptube gases does)
It does affect whether or not you get “blow-by” pressure. Correct me if I’m wrong.
