eBay Turbo kits - why so cheap?...

I was looking @ turbo kit prices for my B18A Teg on eBay and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I see most new kits range between $475 - $650, what the heck I remember these being closer to $3000 just last summer. Does any one know why these are so cheap - is this recession or are these just really crappy kits?

Spending $800 with shippings is definitely worth it for a big hp gain. The only things missing from most of these kits are the following:
-Moded oil pan
-Computer - I already have mine chipped
-Boost Gauge
-Tuning once the kit is installed - but how do you ship tunning

Any thoughts on this phenomenon?

Any suggestions on which of these kits would be best for my B18A1 1990 Tag with OBD0 to OBD1 conversion (chipped)?

cause there made cheap so they dont last to long

those kits on ebay have always been cheap, in price and quality…

Ooooohhhhh I get it… you almost had us… good one though, you got jokes!!! :umno:

:hmm:

the only ebay turbo product that I’ve read about being decent is the turbo’s. I’ve seen a lot of setups with people using the ebay turbo’s and they’ve lasted at least 15000km and more. all you need is an oil restrictor (but you need this for almost any turbo).

ebay turbo kits have mixed results in feedback… people say they are garbage and dont want them anywhere near their cars and others have had and continue to have great success… personally i wouldnt mind buying one… there are a couple key parts i’d definatly swap out before harsh usage… i would definatly swap out the wastegate, manifold… and you most definatly need to run an oil restrictor with these turbo’s because the factory ones are crap and the turbo seals will blow out sooner or later… the manifold aren’t all that bad but you need to fabricate a brace so the weight of the turbo setup doesn’t crack the manifold… if your looking for some decent power i’d stay away from the log manifolds… the wastegates have a tendancy to either not open, or to stay open… if the wastegate doesnt open properly then say goodbye to your bottom end!! good luck with the build!!

The only thing that i’ll use form ebay would be the blow off valves and the intercoolers. Its way cheaper, they work good, and if they fail their is nothing that could get damage. (I really can’t think of a way that the intercooler could fail)

never get kits from ebay! i have a friend with a civic that ran one of those kits for like 2 weeks, then everything, and i mean EVERYTHING started to go, one by one. the amount of time and money he spent at the shop, he should of just saved in the begining

Hey I dont know if you understand what you put, but if a BOV fails it can cause damage. Ever heard of a thing called turbo surge.:read:

well as soon as your BOV does not work you would know right away, and it really wouldnt do damage if you remove it as soon as possible… ill take my chances with them I have a couple. And also their t-bolt clamps and piping is really cheap (price) also and it works just as good, the only downside of that is you would have to do some modification to it, because it never fits perfectly.

I never had a problem with my ebay kit…i used one on my old gsr and currently have a ebay evo3 turbo on my galant.

My friend bought a brand name evo 3 and paid close too 750…while i paid 250 its been on my car for almost 2 years now with no problem.

so eat that all you ebay turbo haters.

it isn’t a no-name ebay turbo its off of a fuckin evo lol… the ebay turbo kits are no named and are build the most inexpensivly… buying used turbos off of ebay are fine.

most ebay kits i’ve seen on peoples cars have ran good, they ditch the manifold and wastegate and get a name brand one. other than that everything else works fine. BTW i took apart a ebay knock off HKS BOV and a real HKS BOV and they are made pretty much the same from the inside so, go figure you spend $250 on a HKS and could get one on ebay for $50, if you do your research you should have no problems with the kit, if you already know what to look for and replace. Oil restictor on the turbo is what keeps those things in good shape!
