As soon as I get some measurements I can draw it up and get the parts ordered. Sounds like more than 10 sets would be a good idea since there seems to be quite a bit of interest.
I just measured 48.83mm from the center of where the bushing sits with my digital caliper off of my old DA rack. I hope it helps
I would be interested as well
How Wide is the DA bushing? Anyone?
I would be interested as well. i really want ot delete Power steering, and my first plan was to loop the rack with a breather tank. Looks like this would be a better idea.
I can get you that measurement for the bushing i think tomorrow after i get home from work. i have an ES master set out in my garage and a digital caliper in my toolbox. I just have to find a way to check the calibration on it.
As soon as I have the bushing width I’m ready to go on this.
Sorry man I’ll get the bushing width tonight, I’ll be home in about 2 hours.
i have the bushing, just no cool thing to measure it with
I am going to attempt this swap tomorrow. Is there anything that i should pay close attention to? About how long did it take you guru, including removal of all of the lines? Thanks
Dan, you never responded to my text:(
heres the measurements mrpenny gave me
The ef rack measures 36.90 mm
and the bushing thickness at the center is 3.80mm
anyone want to second those
Ok i used my mutitoyo digital caliper. Not sure if its PERFECTLY calibrated but heres what i got, i wasnt sure which measurement you needed exactly so i got a couple.
the bushings outside diameter is 57.3 mm
the inside diameter is 48.36mm
and the thickness of the wall of the bushing is 4.54mm
BTW you guys that did this swap, are your cars daily driven? ina few months ill be swapping in a B18C and i wanted to delete power steering. my first plan was to loop the rack and use a breather tank (one of those weapon r billet catch tanks). but ill swap the steering rack if its realiable. Is it really a big issue with having more turns lock to lock? I dont really entirely like the idea of shimming the rack, seems a little dangerous, but i dont know much about this. So you use both the DA inner and outer tie rods? Ive read some use the CRX inners and DA outers. If i do it ill proabably use the 88-91 CRX Si rack because i heard its a bit less turns lock to lock, and maybe in the future do the Quaife kit in the rack. I just dont want to have to seriously muscle the wheel all the time, and the Quaife kit says it enables quicker more responsive steering at the cost of a bit more effort turning the wheel.
If you are rolling, there isn’t any more effort. The main thing is learning to turn real quick while it is rolling in a parking lot (if you have to stop and turn the wheel, then it is difficult). When you are driving down the road, you can’t really tell any difference, except if you don’t do the quick steer kit and are going around a long turn wheel is turned much more than before (like 90 degrees in some cases). Power steering only makes a difference up to about 15mph.
Niiiiice, that settles it. Thank you
Quick comments:
The rack swap isn’t that difficult. I would say a 4 out of 10 scale.
Pulling all of the power steering lines with the motor in the car sucks. I made use of my angle grinder to get the hard lines out. If you are not sure if you will like the CRX rack, wait to pull the lines until you drive it for a bit. You can always go back to PS if you find the manual rack is too hard. I thought it was a first, but now I love it.
Use DA inner and outer tie rods. Only thing EF should be the rack itself.
Shimming the rack is not dangerous at all. It would be wise to use a longer bolt on the shimmed side (I did).
My car is daily driven and on twisty roads to and from work. :manual:
At first I bought a CRX Si manual rack. It was good but a little too sloppy for me. I also wanted to do the Quaife quick rack as well and it only fits the non-Si manual EF rack. So I purchased the HF rack and sold the Si unit. I still haven’t gotten the Quaife quick rack kit, but I’m thinking about it. I like the HF rack better than the Si rack anyway. A bit firmer.
Lastly, I appreciate all of the measurements, but what I was asking for is the width (left to right) of the stock DA bushing. The aluminum bushing thickness is the DA rack diamter minus the EF rack diameter. I’ve got that now. I need the width. Thanks.
Glynn, didn’t get back to your text as I was installing a B20 into my neighbors Integra today as well as rebuilding her transmission. My phone was in the house so I missed all calls and text messages.
Did you get your rack second-hand, or from a dealer/autozone/Kragens etc?
The motor wll be out of the car in a month or so so i can clean everything and send it for paint, then ill just be waiting on all the hardware from Honda, thats when ill be doing the rack swap. BTW ill definetly be needing one of those bushings.
I picked up the rack from a local Honda auto wrecker. They have three grades of parts:
A= great conditon, less than 60,000 miles
B= okay condition, less than 125,000 miles
C= poor condition, 175,000 miles or more
My rack was an “A” condition but I still replaced the inner and outer tie rods with new DA units.

So your using a HF manual rack from a CRX? and you still haven’t installed a Quaife quick-ratio rack and pinion kit* Does the Yr. from the CRX matter if its from a 88-89 or 90-91?
Sounds alot simple then I thought instead of searching for a 91 CRX Si…
Any other catch’s (needs) through out the conversion?
Thank’s
You need an HF rack if you plan on doing the Quaife quick rack. Year doesn’t matter. It’s a simple swap. Taking the power steering lines out sucks though (damnfishoilsmellingstuff) :vomit:
Oh alright; Thanks:rockon:
Dan, no worries man I know your a busy guy. let me know when you get these made. Ill deffinatly take one off your hand
