thanks agazzi. it just seems like one hurdle after another. its definitely discouraging but hopefully things will start coming along.
mike- to answer your question I dont weld. I know someone who does. question is asking them if they are willing to take the task on.hahaha nice mike always looking out for a good deal:P
edit- ok good news so the manual seatbelt install along with the shaving of some engine bay holes will take place at the same time:) pic of the process will be taken
Yeah, donāt worry about the safety of the seatbelts Ryan, any competent welder should be able to do it EASILY. I didnāt weld mine in (they were in the shell when I bought it) but was planning on doing the install originally. Iām no pro by any means but a few years back we welded out cage for the LeMons car. Welding is surprisingly easy, best addition to the garage ever, it opens up the possibilities exponentially when working on cars
Dontā let the hurdles discourage you again manā¦NOT THIS TIME.
Things may change over here in the 604ā¦Funnyā¦you have inspired me for YEARS to keep going on my carā¦but when you finally get Enron back and start bring her back to lifeā¦Iāve pretty much decided to retire Mangoā¦I will keep her thoā¦she will never leave meā¦however, her days as a DD will soon come to an endā¦her fate is in question; Tho the plan is to keep her so i can show my kids (if I ever get any) and grandkids my legacyā¦I hope I can get her to the point where she can see a track day or two before I park her forever. But she has definitely gotten tired of seeing traffic and stuff dailyā¦
So I know long overdue. I finally got Kyle and D to come over for some welding and shaving of the engine bay this last friday so things are rolling now:) Big thanks to Kyle and D for their help! On to the pics!
AC hole and some other small holes were welding to make the engine bay look more smooth and clean
More pics. Jasco stripper is my friend!!!. it helped me remove paint, dirt and grease. More pics!!!
This week I need to smooth out the areas that were welded with minimal bondo useage. Then block sand it. The engine bay is looking fairly good for all the paint n grease that was on it. I bought the primer and paint for the engine bay.
but mums the word on the color. I will say it wont be GGP anymore. She will the artist formerly known as Enron
yea it does. until a piece of dirt or paint got past my glasses into the corner of my eye and started burning because of the jasco stipper. ha i never had to act so fast.
glynn you like that? haha i figure this is a new start with her and its time to change the color!
You sure are getting into things there and are braver than I ā it is looking good.
I may have missed it, and I know you are focusing on the engine bay/body work right now, but what did you use (are you planning to use?) as far as engine internals for your build? I read that you are thinking about maybe CTR/ITR cams but are with OEM for now, but what about pistons and head work?
+1 for the Jasco paint stripperā¦ it is semi-pricey but it works DAMNED well. I used it to strip the entire shell of my DA, and it has become a staple that I always keep on the shelf, just in case.
Your project is coming along very well man. I havenāt read up on your build in a while (since your last update, tsk tsk!!!) But am definitely looking forward to more details. Moar infoz man!
Robin- thanks man, I feel like a newbie all over agin. I had been out of the modding intregra seen for about 6 years so this build is the most intense ive ever done and ive done a lot of motor swaps.
im running a b17a. Bottom end was hot tanked. It has brand new Acl bearings and oem seals. .25 over Ctr pistons. In the head i have Itr valve train and new valve guides. I have a set of 1st gen toda cam gears and id like some itr/ctr cams to go with. I also have an itr intake mani and an 98 itr exhaust manifold:) Thats about it so far for the engine work.
Transmission- All the praise goes to .J. he took my ys1 and put new syncros in 2nd and 3rd and then added an itr limited slip w/ a 4.7 final:)
Unified- yes like glynn posted once I love me some Jasco stripper. That stuff works, just dont get it on your skin and your good! yea man i know im ashamed it took me so long for an update:( Things are looking good now. I may have some time tonight to work on it. I think its time to start staying up late and working on it at night:D
I wish my ride was in my garage for those late night wrenchāing hoursā¦ Meh, consider yourself lucky if it is within a stones-throw! A B17 with ITR cams (and valvetrain) will make for a nice rpm-band man, especially with those CTR Pistonsā¦ Compression like whoa! Hopefully it all comes together for ya. Iāll be sure to stay tuned!
I know how you feel, I am just getting back in the swing of things myself. I got a GS-R last year and immediately destroyed the head after doing some preventative maintenance (cam seals). Apparently you have to use assembly lube when reinstalling cams. Shesh, who knew? My LS wasnāt so picky, lol. My point being that I am in the (slow) process of (mentally) piecing together the build and am trying to actually learn some engine theory and do it right this time around.
So. Your compression is going to be around 12.5:1 on stock cams? And you guys can only get 91 octane out there in CA, right? Uh. Are you feeling pretty good about that? Like, talked to an engine tuner and stuff? I only ask because I was searching through some old threads and it seems that 6 years ago, no one really knew about the significant compression height difference in a PCT piston, which adds a full point of compression.
I am glad that I got some good conversations in with .J. while he still posted regularly, that guy is absurdly knowledgeable about our transmissions, does he still have that beautiful RS? Iāve still got pictures of that thing that I drool over.
I will share unifiedās jealousness of your proximity to your car and will add a jealousy of your weather. And donāt give me that āit gets pretty cold at night hereā crap because I looked at it and your lows right now are 15 degrees above my highs!
I hate chemical burns. My most common one is putting a carb cleaner soaked or paint stripper soaked rag in my back pocket. Itās all good until I sit down and realize my ass is starting to get suspiciously warmā¦
You do bring up a good point about the compression being a bit highā¦ one thing I remember though, when talking with my tuner about R camsā¦ he says that they have a decent size overlap, and this reduces āfunctionalā compression. Static compression may be 12.5:1, but if using R cams it should be a bit less.
With a GOOD tuner, I donāt see 12:1 being horribly highā¦ but said tuner will definitely have his work cut out for him. Maybe a thicker headgasket would do some good in this instance? I dunnoā¦ but I do like Robins suggestion of speaking with a tuner to get all the possible issues cleared up. Iāve heard horrible stories of B18 GSRs and LSs with CivicR pistonsā¦
Unified- yea having a garage is nice. its not neccessarily warm since weāve been getting into the high 20ās- to mid 40ās at nights. yes comp will be high. From what I calculated its going to be 11:4 to 1
Ouch yea research is a must. Yes Im doing the same thing. learning a lot of new stuff, while also remembering things I once knew.
Like I told unified from my calculations 11:4 to 1 is what I got. I figure with a good tune and a nice system to run off the ecu it should be good:)
yea he does. when i was at his house 1yr and 1/2 ago it was sitting pretty right in the center. his car is unreal. he is the man when it comes to transmissions!

Hahaha thank you for the compliments. hey man it was 40 degrees outside this morning and last month in december it seemed like every morning was 28 degrees and I had ice on my windows:)= Im a cali grown dood my blood likes to stay warm:P well your chemical burn tops them all dood. hahaha glad to see to have a good sense of humor about it!
I spent my first 25 years in Texas, so I hear you about disliking the cold. This snow crap is not cool (no damn pun intended!).
I must admit that I have only been looking at the online calculators but the one at zeal is the one Iāve heard to be most accurate. The one at C-speed doesnāt take into account changes in compression height, it expects you to somehow magically come up with the piston to deck height.
Visualize a piston in a block. If you change the wrist pin hole location on that piston (but keep everything in your mental image the same) the piston to deck height will change but in the C-speed calculator it remains constant until you change it which works out mathematically if you put the correct number there, but is not how the formula for that stuff actually works.
Please donāt interpret my comments as condescending if this is information you already know and you have accounted for all of this stuff and done your own calculations, it is just something that I learned of recently and wasnāt discussed the last time I was into this kind of thing. I just want to make sure that you are positive of what youāve got since this is one of those things where there is constant confusion on the interwebs.
this is some good info robin. my motor isnt really built yet and this is something I need to find out before doing. I was totally under the impression that c speed was accurate. I had also seensome other info last year when I had the pistons put into the block. 12:5 to 1 seems really high to me.
im going to need to get more clarification before proceding with my motor build. Thank you
