Just wondering if you guys think its worth getting a lightened flywheel particularly the fidanza flywheel…i want to get one but am not sure what the advantages and disadvantages are…i know that it is lighter and can potentially give your vehicle more horsepower…i have a fully built ls/vtec and am changing my clutch so the flywheel would be accessable… im thinking go for it…what do you guys think?..i also wonder of other companies such as clutchmasters and comptech whom ive heard are pretty good…let me know.
gent2teg: Clutchmasters manufactures Fidanza flywheels so they are the same thing. The Comptech piece is pretty much the same as well. Although some may say 7.5lbs is too light for the street, I would recommend the Clutchmasters/Fidanza lightweight flywheel with the LSVTEC setup because of the longer stroke of the LS bottom and the lightened flywheel IMHO will mate well and help to pick up the revs quicker with the longer stroke motor. I myself will be running a Clutchmasters flywheel and Stage 3 clutch kit when I put my motor back in the ride.
If you are interested in a Clutchmasters flywheel, take a peep at my sig and let us know if you’re interested. Thanks.
so the clutchmasters one is the same then??..i noticed the clutchmasters flywheels had different stages what are the differences?? does fidanza have the same stages??my setup is pretty aggresive as you know so a pretty good flywheel is what i figure i need…let me know.
Steve, I will give you a call later. I’m up in Davis right now. Hard to get a good signal.
gen2teg: The flywheels don’t come in stages. It’s the Clutch Kits that do. The Clutchmasters unit is the exact same flywheel as the Fidanza. IMO, I think a lightened flywheel will do nicely with the LS bottom helping it to rev quicker since it has a longer stroke than the B16 and B17 motors.
thats great for some reason i thought they came in stages…my bad…anyway the reason i guess i was leaning towards the fidanza is cause the guy that is selling it is getting them from fidanza direct and will sell me one for 250 shipped so i thought it was a good deal…let me know what you think…i still value your opinion in this case…what flywheel do you have??..greatly appreciated.
gen2teg: Fidanza I believe gets all their flywheels from Clutchmasters. For $250 shipped, I would pick it up. That’s a great deal! I will be running a Clutchmasters 7.5lb flywheel. Same thing.
DAYUIZ: I’ll try to contact you now. The compuserve lines are hard to get up here.
Which one is cheaper? Clutchmasters or Fidanza? I’m looking for a 10-13 lb. flywheel. 7.5 is too light. I was looking on nopi and they have a really good deal, but the one they said, I changed the ounces into pounds and its like 18 pounds! Thats like stock weight!!!
rcnacura: Robert, the Clutchmasters and Fidanza flywheel are exactly the same so they should be the same price. They are both 7.5lbs. If that’s too light for you, I would just recommend going with shaving/lightening your stock flywheel to 12-13 lbs. HTHs.
how reliable will my stock one be? I would rather jsut find a aftermarket one…you sell any 93b18 or can get any? I thought clutchmasters made a difference pound kind.
DAn (G2guru) is running a stock lightened flywheel 12 or 13 lbs I believe on his ITR motor. As far as I know, he hasn’t had any probs with his flywheel. Not sure if there are any structural comprimises when lightening your stock flywheel. I haven’t heard of any as long as you don’t shave off too much material. I decided to go with a Clutchmasters unit for mine partly b/c I know it’s made lightweight in the first place and is not a shaved unit.
All B-series Clutchmasters lightweight flywheels are 7.5lbs.
I’ve heard good things about the Exedy flywheel also. It isn’t as light, I believe it’s 9.1lbs. IMO, I don’t think the 1.6lbs is gonna make much of a difference when compared to the 7.5lb Clutchmasters unit.
Is 9 pounds maybe a bit too light for a mainly street car?..im thinking it would be cause your rpm’s jump much quicker thus giving you more wheel spin if your wanting go fast?..i’ve heard though for most ls/vtec setups its better to have alighter flywheel so the rod stroke ratio is a litle better?..93B18 or anyone could you verify that…what would you suggest for my ls/vtec?..should i get a 9 pound or lighten the stock flywheel to say 14 pounds which is what some people have done?..let me know.
