Finally Getting My Turbo Set Up Going

Update : Ordered some new wheels for the car =] Will post photos when they come in

Put the car back on the dyno to see what it would make on 18lbs isntead of 16. It made 354 on 16lbs back in November…only made 301 this time on 18lbs. Same dyno. Compression test was good so idk what’s going on. Turbo isn’t being over worked. I’m blaming the fact that it was 103 degrees in the dyno room and 80+% humidity. Oh well is what it is. Now I can say I only make 300 and really hurt peoples feelings lol. Did get some nice flames from the dumptube though =] First pull was 3rd gear (314hp), then the second pull is 4th gear (301hp)

I understand what you went through with the avid traction bar. They are the worst, the clunking, the shaking, and the feeling that your front end is not tight and that is can break at any moment was not fun. I ended up welding it to the chassis, where it bolts up. The reason is because it bolts to the tow hooks. If you look at innovative, full race, and ktuned…they bolt it to the bottom where the oem part goes and support it with the the tow hooks. I have the innovative one now, and it’s definitely better than the avid, although I get an odd feel after taking off normal from a complete stop, but I can live with that. Great build

Exactly. The noises traction bars make is terrible. Performance aside, I don’t think they’re work having when your car sounds like it’s falling to pieces. I’m so happy I went back to the stock cross member. Car feels so much better and I officially have zero squeaks or noises from any suspension parts =]

Update on some stuff. The wheels I ordered went to shit. Long story, but the company screwed up and sent me the wrong color. Then they told me they don’t even make the color I want anymore (after they spent a week trying to find the part number) and that if they make them it’ll be 12 weeks till they can ship them. They had the color I wanted on their website, but had no idea what that color was or called. They screwed up big time. I’m currently waiting to get a refund so I can move on and buy some other wheels. I hate do go back down to 15’s because then I have to buy all new tires which will suck because I just bought new r888’s back in March. I think I’m going to go ahead and get the 15x8 rpf1’s though. I don’t like how those wheels look in 16’s so it’s either go down to 15’s or up to 17’s. 17’s wouldn’t work so 15’s it is. I will post photos when I get those. Hopefully they send me the right color…silver, hard to screw that up lol.

I also ordered a 10" SPAL Fan because my car is starting to overheat a bit with the extra boost I’m on now. Hopefully running my current fan along with the SPAL Fan will help keep the temps in check.

Another thing, my passenger axle blew out the other night and I’m not happy about that. Grease went into parts of my engine bay that I didn’t even know existed >=[ I got most of it out, but I can only reach so much. It is what it is, but god I hate grease, I hate grime, and I hate dirty parts.

So I got my Spal fan yesterday. I was all excited to get a new part right up until I saw the box…

Looks like someone ran it over with something. I was pretty bummed about that, but still had some hope the fan would be alright inside. Then I opened it and saw this…

When I opened that box to pull the fan out it came out in pieces =[

I contacted the company I ordered it from and sent them the photos. They were very helpful and overnighted me a replacement free of charge. They also didn’t want the broken one back so I didn’t have to mess with sending it back which was nice. I will post photos of the new ones once I get it in later today

Just realized I never posted the photos of the first wheels I got that were the wrong color.

This was them. They were supposed to be matte grey not sparkly gloss

So over the weekend I got the Spal fan installed which required me to remove my front bumper (I hate taking that thing off). While it was off I decided to paint the intercooler silver. I figured my car has kind of lost the sleeper look I was going for since I put fat tires on the front, and the dumptube through my hood. The fan did keep the temps down while cruising on the highway which is were I would normally see the temps start to climb. While I was racing though they still got up to 219 which is still too hot my my liking. I might switch to a different thermostat that opens sooner or be ghetto and drill holes in the oem one…yes that’s a thing and yes it does work surprisingly. Anyway I’m happy with how the fan is working for the most part. It does move a lot more air is is a lot more quiet and smooth sounding than the stock ac fan I was running before.

Onto the photos

I’m still not sure I really like the silver intercooler, but I can always paint it black again. Although I don’t want to take the front bumper off again. Such a pain to get it to line up right when I put it back on

And yesterday my new wheels came in!!! =] I was super happy when I saw them. I’m really glad things worked out the way they did because I love how these look even though they’re smaller. I picked one up and just started laughing because they’re so light. The other wheels were 16-17lbs a piece. These rpf1’s are 11.3lbs a piece. Crazy light. I can not wait to mount them on my car, but I’ll have to wait because I can’t afford tires just yet. Specs are Enkei RPF1 15x8 +28. I will need hubcentric rings because the bore is meant for a miata (only way they come), but those are cheap so no big deal. I’ve never owned a new set of wheels let alone name brand wheels. I want to put some kind of protective coat on them before I mount them on the car.

try adding a shroud to that fan

how thick is the radiator? looks like dual core and 50ish mm (2 inch)?

Probably not a bad idea

Not sure exactly how thick it is. It’s a dual core Go-Autoworks unit.

So I put the black Tial blow off valve on in May and I already decided to change it. We got some blue ones in at work and once I saw it I knew I had to have it in my engine bay.

I installed it and couldn’t be happier I made the switch from the black one. It doesn’t match perfectly, but it’s pretty close

I also put some of this water wetter in to help with the heat which it seems to be doing, but I could only fit half the bottle because the radiator was full

Bad news side of things, my throw out bearing starting making noise Saturday night after I got done with my runs. It sounds like it has crickets inside of it =[ I can still drive it, but man it’s annoying to listen to. I don’t want to pull the trans just to fix a throw out bearing. That to me seems like a waste. I’d rather wait until I can afford to put an lsd and some new synchros in it. Or buy another trans that is already built. I need to buy tires for my new wheels first though

I realized the other day I have not done a proper photoshoot of my car in 2 years =[ When I get the new wheels put on I’m going to get some actual photos again. I’m tired of all these cell photo shots

i know its kind of late but I found some k1’s in the size plus a half bigger then you were looking at but http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwi/wto/5697585440.html haha

Daaaamnit!!! >=[ Man I wish I saw that a few weeks ago. Honestly, if I had the money right now I’d still buy them…I don’t though. Thanks for sharing that though, I appreciate it.

I’m in the same boat I want them haha but I’m doing suspension shut on my ek coupe and trying to boost my da.
But immediately when I saw the post I was like I know someone wanted these then I remembered and was like he got new wheels already lol

Well I appreciate the thought man.

So last weekend sucked for my car. Car went from being perfectly fine with zero issues to a cascading, snowballing, downhill effect of one problem after another. To start last friday I put C16 in my car instead of E85 (long story, huge mistake on my part). The car ran fine for the first few seconds and then just went super rich and bogged down to idle at about 100 rpms if that. I knew I had screwed up and was forced to drain the tank. After draining the tank and adding in a full tank of fresh E85 I started the car and it still ran like crap for about the first 10 seconds. After that the E85 got through and the car was running perfectly fine again. Problem fixed. Next thing I did that night was rip part of the underside of my dash apart to fix the issue with my steering column moving around on me. That turned out to be the two bolts that mount it to the frame under the dash were completely missing. Not sure how that happened, but I put two new bolts in and problem solved. After that I called it a night and drove home. During that drive I tried to get on it and the car kept acting like it had a 6000 rpm rev limit. I could not for the life of me figure out why it was doing that all of a sudden. I took some datalogs and sent them to my tuner as well ad shot this video because every time it would cut it kept shooting out these flames (which I liked).

//youtu.be/oSGWkwtLK4s

As it turns out when I was under the dash I ripped some wires out that were hooked up for the full throttle shift feature I had set in the tune. So that full throttle shift was thinking it was activated when it wasn’t and that was causing it to cut every time I hit 6000 rpm (because that’s where the fts was set at). So again…another problem fixed.

The next day the car was working perfectly fine on the way to the meet that night. I got on it a few times messing around with my friends STi and the car was running great. Later at the meet I went out to run a friends Yamaha 600 whatever it was and as soon as I got into boost the car went super rich, bogged down and was misfiring like crazy. I pulled over and the car was just idling richer than my gauge could read and barely running. I didn’t know what was going on so I turned it off and let it sit for a few minutes. After that I fired it back up and it seemed fine so I told my friend lets try that run again. Same thing happened again. I limped the car back to the meet and started checking things. The voltage on the battery was really low and so was the voltage coming out of the alternator. So now the alternator was dead. I thought you’ve got to be kidding me…yet another issue. I let the car idle for about 20 minutes to try and charge the battery. During that time the car kept randomly going super rich and bogging down. Eventually that stopped happening so I decided to take the car out for a test hit to see if the problem was resolved for the time being. As soon as I tried to back the car out of the spot it bogged down, died, and I lost electrical power to everything. :bang: I knew I had enough power to run minor things so I had no idea why I lost power to everything all of a sudden. At this point I was pissed. Here we go again…another problem. After going over all the fuses and checking everything my friends and I traced the issue down to my battery ground cable. Turns out it was fried and wasn’t working anymore. I got a random wire from someone at the meet and put it on all ghetto just to get the car working so I could drive it home. We did that, the power came back and the car started up, however the problems weren’t over. Right after that when I pulled out the parking lot into the main street the car bogged down and this time it was super lean. I kept giving it gas and it wouldn’t go anywhere. Cars were coming and honking at me and here I was stuck in the middle of the road. After a few seconds the fuel came back and the car ran normal again. As I was driving home though my check engine light started flashing. I checked the Hondata app and saw I was getting a cel for “TPS-high voltage”. W…T…F. I had never seen that error code in my life and was dumbfounded as to what in the world was going on with my car at that time. I again limped the car home and was so pissed I didn’t touch it for a few days. I couldn’t deal with it anymore at that point.

Later one during the week I decided to replace the battery ground with an actual cable and fixed that problem. Then I looked at my TPS sensor and noticed the plug that holds it on had broken somehow and the clip was missing that actually holds it onto the sensor. How that happened I do not know, but the plug was hanging down so the sensor wasn’t really plugged in. I pushed it back onto the sensor and fired the car up. It idled perfectly. No more bogging down, not more running rich or lean. Solved yet another problem

Soooo then…I decided to pull the alternator off because that still needed to be replaced. As we all know the axle has to come out for that and the way I do it I remove the suspension fork (knuckle) and disconnect the upper ball joint. When I went to disconnect the upper ball joint the castle nut just fell off. All the threads were flat on that ball joint and the nuts was even holding on to anything anymore. That was scary to find out. I had just put new upper ball joints on there not 3 months ago. I guess they were cheap ones and the threads fell apart on them. So I figured I might as well check the one on the other side as well and it was even worse. The threads were gone as well along with the boot being completely shot already. Soo now I have yet another problem. I can either buy new ball joints like I did last time that didn’t last 3 months, or buy entire new name brand upper control arms. Ugh.

I ordered a new Denso alternator, and had some Skunk2 upper control arms overnighted to me which will be here today. Hopefully those don’t suck. I’ve heard mixed reviews, but it’s the only name brand I could get discounted through work and had overnight shipping. They should show up later today and I will install them tonight along with the alternator and be back out running again at the meet tomorrow night.

Such a painful week for my car. I do not know why all these problems happened at the same time, but what a pain in the butt to have to deal with all that within such a short period of time. So far it’s all been easy fixes though. Just some extra money had to be spent that I didn’t want to spend. What’s the old saying? Have to pay to play. It’ll be even longer now until I can afford the tires for those rpf1’s I bought :bawl:

On a happier note I did test fit the rpf1’s before all that bs happened and I think they’re going to look sick!

Also was able to put together another AIV vs The World video. The run with that 600 is at the end when all those issues started. Anyway I’ll post updates when the new parts are on. Fingers crossed no more issues for the time being

Hope everything is all squared away with the car! I was also wondering, have you ever encountered any creep issues out of that GoAutoworks mini ram?

Sorry I haven’t posted on here in months. I just don’t have the time to sit down and update forums anymore. The car is still running and the setup is continuously changing. If you’d like to see updates, photos, videos and any new or future mods on the car please follow me on Instagram @Albino_Pikachu That is where I post everything now because it’s way quicker and easier

I would like to know how you did this. Anybody know? I checked hondata’s forum and a search came up dry.

Impressive build.
