I have read that a lot of people have problems with their SSAC wastegates that come with their turbo kits, but I have also read that a lot of people havn’t. If you have experience with any ebay, generic, SSAC, or just a cheap ass wastegate, please let me know exactly which wastegate you have and your experiences.

Also, I’ve had my heart set on an HKS BOV for the longest time, I just LOVE the way they sound. The problem is just that i can get a 1g dsm BOV that works just as well for about $40, vs HKS $200 plus the $50 flange. Has anybody tried a knockoff HKS BOV??? If so, does is sound anything like a real one?

I have used at least 10 different ssautocracker wastegates. The only problem I have had was one came with a 25+psi spring. We cut it in half and it held 8psi. The get the job done but, its worth buying a name brand wastegate. Just NOT a deltacreep. They are worse than ssautocrackers IMHO. I use a crushed 1g dsm BOV on my 325+whp poor mans typeR setup. I like it, its quiet.

I used an uncrushed DSM BOV for about 5 months with NO problems what so ever. It sounded very nice too. Like a swoosh sound. I never had any problems. I’ve also used a Megan BOV. No problems with that either, although I like the sound of the DSM better. HTH

I sold mine to my friend when i bought my manifold (ssautochrome), I installed it on his car and when we took it out, it seemed to have locked shut because the boost was running nice at ~10psi, then all of a sudden on a 4th gear pull the boost shot to 25+ and threw a rod through the block.

spend the extra money and get a good 'ol Tial.

I was also running the DSM BOV for a while and loved it, it sound is classic and it performed just fine for me running ~10psi.

I’ve used the stone mountain racing wastegate that Ssautochrome sales, and they are crap. the one that I had would overboost @ 12PSi and then the wategate would open, then after accelerating, the wastegate never closed and I always had to pullover and stick a screwdriver down the center of it to get it to pop back in place. peice of crap

I like the sound of a dsm BOV too, it’s just that the HKS is such a head turner, and I love that. I’m just nearing the bottom of my pockets with this build and I wanted to see if I could cut a corner here without sacraficing the safety of my motor, but I see that that isn’t going to happen. So, TIAL wastegate it is, but I still can’t decide if I should splurge on the HKS.

i got a Knockoff SSAC RFL Style and it works fine, i needed to cut the spring a little for it to blow off louder, it was pretty sweet.

I’ve worked with all the cheap stuff. It either works great from the get go and lasts maybe 5k miles or it doesnt work at all. I still see cheap stuff day in and day out… I WOULDNT BUY IT. Its just not worth it.

Ive had one and it worked fine. I used a turbonetics boost controller with mine doe.

I started out with an SSAC HKS Standard Style wastegate, which was crap cuz the valve on the inside was not big enough to hold exhaust in, so it took a long time to build boost. I switched to a TiAL 38mm wastegate and have full boost by 3200 rpm at 13 psi.

other than a bov or downpipe, i would never buy SSAC.

I got it off ebay. I have noticed some slight compressor surge using it.

oh…always that little side comment under the breath, lol. like "O yea, my ssac wastegate works great, keeps it steady at 18 lbs…(under breath) supposed to be 8lbs tho.
