FMU Vs. AFC hack

I know theres gonna be flames on both but its all i can do right now. I have a vafc already. Which is a safer? Im only gonna run about 8psi on a b16a with a t3 .42/.48.I am in the process of getting a fuel pump. some people swear by both. I dont have a wideband or a tuner or laptop or whatever else it takes to run those programs on my ecu so thats out of the question. But please give me pro’s and con’s. thanks

do u at least have bigger injectors?

i could. the 450cc’s. but that would be for the hack right? if i get the fmu i shouldnt need them. I was watching horsepower tv and they used a fmu for a vortec supercharger. I’d imagine if they use them they must be worth something. keep them coming.

:bang:

pay the $30, Chip your ecu,
pay the extra few $$ and do it right,
My god, cheap out of this and you will be spending 800 on a new motor.

I would not take everything they do on automotive TV shows as the correct way to do things. As people have already told you, just get some real management. There is free software out there, and with the money you would spend on a VAFC, you could easily find someone to give you a decent tune. Or search hard enough and you might be able to find a friend who will tune for free.

If you want to make good safe power a afc/fmu is not going to cut it. They cause problems and BLOW ENGINES.

You want to do this when the honda community has had a huge influx in the last 3 years of great free software to do exactly what you want to do in a very clean and safe fashion? Jesus man, get a grip and get some real management.

Sorry bro…there really are no PROs…only CONs.

Get your ECU chipped, it will cost you less than an AFC will cost you. Not having $$ really isnt an excuse.

AFC hack is the best amoung the cheap alternatives. I recommend using the AFC hack…it’s easy to setup and is very reliable as long as you stay within its limits.

What all the people telling you to get ‘real engine management’ aren’t telling you about the hidden costs that go along with going that route. Don’t expect to be able to do this yourself correctly without shelling out quite a bit of money…or you can shell out a lot to have someone else do it.

AFC gets a thumbs up from me as long as you know and respect its limits.

personally i was planning on using an fmu to get my car to paint and back. then i realized my bro sold his so i am just going to run a chip with boost map and retard. just do it right or don’t do it.

Having someone else chip/tune it: $100 - $150
buying your own stuff to do it yourself: $50 (burner) + $200 (wideband). Then after you have skills you can charge your friends a little money to tune their cars and make it back. Ive made all the money Ive spent on my hardware back in tuning other people’s cars. Shit, come to me and I’ll tune yours. I wrote the management you’d probably be using if you went the obd0 vtec route.

I dont think this is too much considering engine management is one of the most important aspects of a reliable turbo setup.

Standalone is the only thing Id suggest… FMU will run as shitty as a untuned basemap (andprolly justas unreliable) Get Hondata,Uberdata,Chrome,Neptune,TAurboedit,Ghettodyne… dude there are somany different options I would most definatly suggest u try to find an oldschhool Hondata bluebox(staged) like stage3bd search on ebay I got one for 188 bones shipped… with chips andall the connectors for flatshift/chatterbox 2stage redline… either way standalone owns

spend a few hundred on the tuning and ur set, i was gunna have AMS tune it since they live down the block but they charge 175/hr soo i said fuck that and got it street tuned, and I chipped my own ecu its actully pretty damn easy www.pgmfi.org will teach u alot dont be scared

If you’re nice enough and meet the right people, a chipping kit will be your only expense. Or maybe I’m just fortunate to be part of a motorsports club at school that has a wideband and a friend who really enjoys tuning and doesn’t charge.

buy my gsr p61 its ready to go uberdata!

what about if you get a chip that retards just the timing with no air/fuel mods and then run a s-afc with a set of 450 injrectors and a 255. thats for those that have no tunners that has seen turboedit and chrome…??

Tuning for timing is alot more difficult and requires more skill than tuning fuel, so if you do that, you might as well have it tuned completely. And you want to advance timing, not retard.
