Going turbo. Have some parts, but still collecting!

Hey Guys, It’s been a while since I’ve done anything on here but here goes. I purchased a 1990 G2 a while ago. I didn’t have much money and the rings were blown and much much more. It wasn’t my fault though. The guy lied to me and a few weeks later…smoke, lots and lots of smoke. I took the car to a shop and the #1 and #4 cylinders were flooded with oil. Anyways, I decided not to fix it, instead just buy a new motor. That’s where things got crazy. So far I have compiled all the parts you see here, and some you can’t as to they aren’t finished yet. But here goes…

List as follows;
-75mm tapered to 69mm billet throttle body
-Neukin Turbo Manifold
-Garrett T3/T04E turbo. It’s .48 A/R exhaust turbine, and a .60 A/R
compressor housing
-Fully built GSR head which I’m not using. I have an even better B16 head
going in. Fully race prepped. Dual valve springs, Ti retainers, Ferrea valves,
port and polish, race valve job, etc.
-Fully built B16A2 forged aluminum 9.0:1 compression pistions, forged rods,
knife edged crank, new oil squirters, Newformz block guard, cylinder braces,
and new sleves.
-HKS Type-1 turbo timer
-NEW CTR cams
-etc.

There’s a few more things, but not much. Clutch, flywheel, intake manifold, etc. I have another $3000 or so to go until it’s finished. Cost to date w/car…around 20K. And it still doesn’t run. I hate myself because of that. I installed a sterio when the car ran, and if I never did, I could use that money to finish the car. Oh well
Here’s a pic

That blue block is sweet! Is that the same color as the car? Maybe I should paint mine a funky color while I have it apart (Aztec Green Pearl block??? he he)?

Anyways, looks like you’ve got a pretty mean setup coming together. What clutch are you using? What engine management are you planning to use? And what are your goals? I guess the only thing I’d be concerned with in your setup is that you probably will have no torque at all… till she starts spoolin. Then there will be Fury, and you will be STUGGLING to keep that thing in a straight line. lol.

You’re doing something I’ve always dreamed of doing, but never had nearly enough $$$ to pull off. I’ll just have to settle with my (hopefully) 400+ whp lsvtec turbo 92 gsr.

O yea, and what trans are you using? LSD? Axles? Engine cooling? Fuel System?

The clutch will be one my engine builder got for me, it’s a custom clutch he uses on his motors, but I know it will be around a 2,200lbs clutch. Engine management, either Zdyne or Hondata. This turbo is just a medium sizes Garrett unit, popular for it’s quick spooling characteristics, it will probably start spooling at around 2,000 to 2,5000rpm. It’s made to produce, on a setup like mine, probably a little over 400whp at 25-27psi. Nope, the block was painted Saphire Blue, where as the car is Electric Blue (close though). I’m going to be using my stock tranny for a while, cause I hear the gears in the 90-91 Integra’s are a bit longer than some of the other Hondas and Acuras. LSD? Not at first, besides with this much power it just about spins both tires evenly, but I plan to get a Quaife LSD. Axels will be The Driveshaft Shop 500hp rated axles. Cooling? Half sized aliminum radiator, Fluidine or Koyo. Fuel system will be as follows; Walbro 255lph pump, RC 750cc injectors, Golden Eagle or Full Race fuel rail, etc. Oil catch can, and so on.

Well, I think that about covers your questions. Thanks

Yep, you’ve got it all planned out to a t, lol. I’ve logged hours and hours, on the computer and the phone learning, budgeting, shopping, and comparing to put my setup together. Now I’ve got my list, but I need to put some more funds together to finish gathering parts, but I’m acutally almost exactly where you are in the process. Our setups are very similar, but have so many little differences that are going to make it interesting to see how they compare. I’m so anxious to get mine done that I already installed my Greddy Turbo Timer.

Do you have an estimated time of completion?

Ahh, crap. I dunno. I’m probably going to get a full rebuild kit for the stock motor and sell the car to this guy who wants to pay like 8 grand! But then again, stock 95 civics go fot that price here on used car lots. If I can sell it, I will be getting another G2 and using the rest of the money for parts.
Oh, and you already installed your turbo timer? Does the car run, like I mean, is it still N/A? I should do that cause I have a built in 250mph spedo, 10,000 tach, 60ft timer, 0-60 timer, 1/4 & 1/8 mile timer with tree. :manual: It’s the HKS Type-1 turbo timer, f*ing sweet.

Oh, and I hope I can get it done before Sept 30th. HIN in Seattle 2006! But it’s a long shot. If not, next year.

yes, it runs and its a stock b18a (my loaner motor). It hooks up to the ignition wires inside the car so it has nothing to do with what motor or setup you have.

So where did you get the tb done at looks good.Want to bore out my gsr tb to 65mm to match my aebs manifold

that will be a nice setup. I personally think a turbo hitting full boost at 2000rpms is a waste. That means the turbo is pretty much the size of a t25 and that turbo looks bigger. If I where you I would purchase a t3/t4 hybrid. Its the best of both worlds and plus with that mani…you can expect it to spool pretty quick. Nice setup doe…cant wait to see it in motion

No, It starts making boost at around 2,000-2,5000 and then scream till redline. It’s a T3/T04E Garrett and I love that manifold. www.neukin.com

Jayrod- I bought the throttle body through a buddy of mine. Even though there is loads of crap floating around HT I still went with his stuff. It’s a www.dh-racing.com throttle body and he bores out the stock ones also. If you’re serious get a hold of him and tell him Clark sent you, or Superman…

I bought a head from dh-racing and I had to spend countless hours cleaning all of the glass or sand out of it. I thought I got all of it out and later found I was wrong and it destroyed the the cams, cam caps and cam journals. The worst part is I emailed them numerous times and called a couple times and no responses from them. I will never buy anything from them again. Sorry to jack just wanted to share my experince with them.

Yeah, I’ve heard all the bad shit. I spent 2weeks with him (and it is him, not a huge shop, just one person…well 2 now) and he does do good work. I’ve seen it first hand. The block and head pctured above are his work, and absolutly flawless.
He had someone working for him before who basically screwed up his company and gave him a bad reputation. He’s making a huge comeback and just ran a 11.4 @ 117+ in the 1/4 with a full interior CRX.
Only a carbonfiber hood and light seats. He weighs 133 and the car is all motor. As for not reciving e-mails. I checked his emails and he gets quite alot(and no, there not only hate mail). Now remember he’s not a mainstream company. When I was in Vegas I saw alot of his cars running down at the strip and were running without any problems at all. So you can say what you will, but I’ll still work with him, until he proves otherwise.

The port and polish job on the head was great work. It was the fact he didn’t run it threw the parts washer to get everything out. I knew it was just him because before I bought it and while he was doing the work he was fast at resnding. Then after I had a problem there was no answer. I wasn’t going to bitch I just wanted see if he would cut a deal on a new head and give him another chance and get a throttle body from him, but no response. That was my biggest issue is no support.

Yeah, he’s trying to fix as many past misdeeds as possible. He’s been fixing his rep on honda-tech. And he has to wash his parts by hand with a power washer. Accidents happen when you’re in a rush but it’s no excuse. As I said, me personaly have had no problems with anything of his. I’ll let him know about this if you want. Or just try to get a hold of him again.

Yeah if you could let him know that would be great. It could be maybe his email changed as well. I am not looking to bitch or demand a refund. Just to see if maybe he could work a deal on a new one later.

Thanks

Unfortunatly, I’m cutting this project short of completion. I am selling the turbo and manifold. I’ll be running a 210+ whp LS/VTEC instead. Eventually I’ll do a Vortec supercharger and in the future maybe go turbo. This is not something I want to do but I have to.:frowning: The link is here. They are both for sale for $600 and prices may be negotable. Note: I paid more that $600 new. And they are new and unused. Thanks

well, on the bright side bro, atleast you sold the turbo kit to me and ill post pics of the setup once its here and installed

LS/VTEC is an awesome setup, nothing like feeling the Vtec kick in with some real power behind it

also ordered my downpipe yesterday, heck ya. gets installed in 2 weeks
