Whats up guys. Do any of you have an opinion on what cams are good for a turbo set up? I am doing a turbo here in the fairly near future, and I want want to put some more oomph in to my LS motor until I put the turbo on. Would Crower 403’s or JG 301’s be good w/ a turbo? I plan on doing rods and pistons before I do the turbo also. I am just curious to hear some opinions. Thanks guys
you wont need cams. just save your money for the turbo.
my $0.02
Stick with your stock cams, JG might make cams but I’ve read from Turbo mag. that JG race cars use stock cams alot in thier engines.
Jackson Racing, quoted in the Honda Builders Handbook, that stock cams are great for a turbo setup.
Don’t run N/A highlift cams in a turbo, it will run like a dog.
It is always great to have the insight of people on this board…Thanks guys.
i would recommend upgrading to 92-93cams, or if you really want to do a set of cams, you should look into Crane Cams out of Daytona Beach Florida, they will do a custom grind for 390 for both cams, with no core charge, and they are brand new, not a regrind…I’m useing stock 92 cams on my turbo motor but eventually i will upgrade to Crane
Jeff
I have a honda builders handbook, and it says that when you turbo your honda, STICK WITH THE FACTORY CAMS!!! the reason for this is that aftermarket cams have too much duration for a turbo, and the extra duration will cause the forced intake gases right out the exhaust port instead of filling up the chamber to its highest potential.
I am running STOCK cams, havent had any complaints yet…
Crower 401T’s are the only non-custom aftermarket cam specificly for B series turbo applications. Higher lift and short duration. Expensive as all Hell. You have to get there springs and retainers with them too.
